We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeffrey Booth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeffrey, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote is from Albert Einstein, which is “You never fail until you stop trying.” I love this quote because it works in all areas of life, and nobody is successful right away, despite what you may think or see on social media. Being an entrepreneur is hard, very hard at times. You have great days and bad days just like anything else, but the most important thing is to just keep going. No one knows when their big break is going to be. Just keep trying, day after day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have a few businesses, but the one I’d like to focus on today is my event production business, Red Devil Events. I’d say the thing that sets me apart from others is my out-of-the-box thinking and ability to adjust on the fly, which is essential in this industry. Something will inevitably go wrong when putting on a large-scale event, but I always look for a way to turn these problems into opportunities.

I’m going to expand with two things I’m most proud of so far, as they each had different challenges. First, I’m very proud of the Gatsby Gala events I produced in 2020 and 2022 at the South Carolina Aquarium. These were my first large-scale events and in my opinion, they both went very well. Second, I’m extremely proud of my Barbie-themed events in the summer of 2023. I was extra ambitious and put on three (yes three) of these large-scale events spanning three cities and two states within two weeks of each other.

I got to where I am today through hard work and innovative thinking. It was by no means easy, and there are still obstacles I’m trying to overcome. The lessons I’ve learned along the way are to be sure to stand up for yourself and not to let people push you around or put words in your mouth. Being introverted and someone who’s not particularly confrontational, I learned these lessons the hard way.

The main thing I’d want people to know about my story is that it’s still being written! Always be open to new opportunities as you never know where something will lead.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow, this is tough in Charleston. There are so many places to go with new ones being added every week, I can’t keep up. Although I’m much more of a thrill-seeker, so my week would involve things like skydiving, bungee jumping, scuba diving, etc. To eat, Halls is a staple, I love Lewis BBQ, and about 65 other restaurants in the area. It’s hard to go wrong. To drink, my spot would be anywhere with a view (rooftop or beach bars) and I love dive bars as well. For exciting people watching? Folly Beach hands down. Finally, for places to check out, my personal preference would be off-the-beaten-path places that most people aren’t familiar with, and I’m certainly not going to tell everyone here lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are too many people to list individually, but I definitely want to give a shoutout to my family, close friends, and charity partners for their support and encouragement. My road to where I am has been tough and I’ve dealt with a lot of adversity in my professional life. One local company that I will name that has been very helpful to me has been Lowcountry Pet Concierge. Yes, I know this company has nothing to do with my industry, but the owner has been very helpful to me in general consulting and keeping me motivated!
