We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Pratt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Attention to details. Whether that is in physical work like building furniture or communicating with clients on highly specific details, a high attention to detail makes all the difference. For me, the importance of this is what drives my business and how I build every piece. To execute this, I’ve found it requires lots of questions and clarifications with my clients. I had someone mention to me recently that they were surprised there were so many decisions to make and things to clarify with a single bathroom vanity, but was thankful for the high level of attention to detail. They were at peace when their vanity was installed and they said it exceeded their high expectations. That’s music to my ears!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For me, my favorite part of each piece of furniture is the work! Each piece takes an extensive amount of steps from planning and designing to picking out the perfect wood selection, showcasing the natural beauty in the material. All of this takes a hands-on-material approach that a machine or computer process just can’t match. There are parts of each project where your creativity and problem solving skills get pushed to new limits, keeping the work each day interesting and fulfilling. One thing that has remained consistent over the years has been the hands on approach that I’ve taken from day one. If it’s possible, I try and build every component of each piece of furniture, from turning legs for a credenza or building solid hardwood drawer boxes. I feel these extra special touches add an extra level of quality for each piece.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever we have friends or family visiting Greenville, we always take them to some of our favorite places Downtown. On great weather days, Gather GVL is one of our go to spots with its wide variety of food and drink options. We love Jianna for dinner and Spill the Beans is a great ice cream spot any night of the week. We love walking the Swamp Rabbit Trail with the kids and have enjoyed the Commons and Unity Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Kate, has been my biggest supporter from day one. Jumping from part time to full time work was a step that we were both nervous to take, but her encouragement was a huge driver in that step. She has never wavered in her support of the business and I’m thankful she is my partner everyday.
