We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaclene Mathis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaclene, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Embracing risks not only cultivates self-assurance but also shapes one’s character, enabling personal and professional growth. It is often stated that one can never truly realize their full potential without taking risks. Personally, I have found that embracing risks has showed me how strong and resilient I am. The adversities I have encountered throughout my life were characterized as “risky” endeavors, yet I have conquered and is still conquering my challenges with unwavering determination.
For example, confronting the responsibilities of being a teenage mother presented significant difficulties, but I made it through! I was able to attain my high school diploma and initiate entrepreneurial ventures as a Braider. As I got older, despite everything that was happening, I managed to take risks and attain college degrees, licensures, my own brick and mortar braiding business & more while caring for my children. I’ve realized in life, we will frequently encounter situations where risk-taking becomes an inherent part of decision-making. This is where character, morals, resilience, strength & more is built! My advice to anyone would be to KEEP GOING!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In business, my primary goal is to provide valuable assistance and uplift others, whether through real estate, wellness, or braid styles. Bringing joy to people and witnessing their gratitude fuels my dedication. I believe my success comes from my genuine, kind, and honest approach, guided by the principle of treating others as I wish to be treated.
Challenges may arise, but my strong communication skills and knowledge help me overcome them. I understand that it’s not always possible to please everyone, but I commit to giving my best in every endeavor. My faith is a cornerstone, guiding me with the belief that “Prayer without work is dead,” and “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” acknowledging God in all I do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t go out often but I love a good meal! I’d probably go to a restaurant I haven’t been to before in park circle, downtown Charleston, or Mt. Pleasant.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am extremely grateful for my “village”. My village consists of not only my family and friends, but also all those individuals who have played instrumental roles in my life’s journey. The unwavering love and steadfast support I have been fortunate to receive, from my younger years to the present, have been pivotal in nurturing my personal development and shaping the women I have become.
