We had the good fortune of connecting with Gritty Flyright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gritty, how does your business help the community?
Music is truly magical! In a world that can sometimes paint the misconception that we as human beings are far apart in our differences, music continues to remind us that we share so much in common. People are brought together over a variety of genres to connect and celebrate life. I would like to think that my small business performing as a singer-songwriter contributes to not only my community but maybe has a ripple effect to reach others around the world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer-songwriter based in Charleston, SC. Music has provided a career for me to write and perform professionally under the handle “Gritty Flyright”. I enjoy sharing my stories with others through live performance. I haven’t always played music. I was a public educator for ten years serving as an Elementary School Teacher and Counselor. I feel fortunate to have found music as a therapy as well as a career.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Charleston, SC has so much to offer…I would send them to Chico Feo down on Folly Beach to experience the surf, live music, and delicious tacos. Then, over to my friends on Bowen’s Island to eat some fresh seafood and scenic views. Stop by to see G and get yourself a fresh haircut at Anthony’s Barbershop. Then head downtown to the Frontier Lounge to experience live Country Music.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have supported my career through the years. I am truly grateful for all the sacrifices made on my behalf. My good friend David Kascak is an incredible example of someone who has continued to support me personally and professioanlly throughout my career. David and I connected through our mutual friend Brad Elliott and became fast friends. I had only been performing for about year when we met and David really jumped in at the beginning of what would become something bigger than we imagined. He has dedicated his time and talent to the music and I have learned so much from him and continue to receive encourgement with my songwriting and performing. I truly appreciate his contributions and for being willing to roll up his sleaves in the beginning with a guy who was just finding his way. David has so much influence on the music and I am truly grateful for his commitment.
