We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Learning to ask for help is the only reason I’ve been able to succeed. While it may come easily for some, I am the type of person who will try to do it all myself. Whether I’m watching YouTube videos, spending hours on trial and error attempts, or just refusing to acknowledge that I am over capacity. While this trait is great in doses, it limits the scale and speed of growth.

At a breaking point, I decided to seek out help from someone who had successfully built a business similar to mine. The foundation and guidance she provided allowed me to restructure my business in a way that was clear to prospective leads. I was challenged on how I approached marketing, delegation, and finances. She also provided encouragement as I made changes in my business and my mindset.

As my business grew I began to hire instead of doing it all myself. I am able to support more clients without working long hours. Instead of doing it all myself, I ask myself if I need to be the one to do a task or if someone on my team could handle it. The level of support I receive from my team goes beyond the daily list of to-dos.

I recently created a Mastermind group with three other business owners in my field and level. We are able to ask each other for help as we navigate new problems that come with growth. This group would not be possible if any of us believed we could “do it on our own”. I am very grateful to have other women who believe in community over competition.

When I began seeking out experts in my field to learn from, hiring professionals and stopped believing I couldn’t delegate certain tasks, my business grew more in 8 months than it did the two years prior.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m an online business manager and the founder of Lunimae Strategy. I help burned-out brand and web designers put down the matches and design a calmer business.

The meaning behind the name “Lunimae” (Lunimae is a combination of “luna,” “illuminate,” and “mænan,” which is an old English verb meaning “to intend to do something” or “purpose”).

Creative CEOs usually come to me when their batteries are at 1%. They’re juggling multiple projects without supportive systems, and they don’t know how to delegate or automate—let alone scale their business. We provide strategic systems, tech support, project, and team management.

We only work with web designers and as a result, we’re deeply familiar with their unique needs, challenges, processes, and tools. We provide a collaborative, hands-on, strategic approach to all aspects of their business. I love how web designers bring art to business. They are all passionate about what they do and they are fully invested in their client success AND function which is beautiful. I’m just there to help them along.

I worked as an IT Project Manager for many years in a corporate environment and while that did not provide me with the impact I desired, it did give me the toolset for the work I do today. I managed many different personalities, learned to work within scope, and how to see problems coming and head them off.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My first stop would be Folly Beach for a walk and shark tooth hunting. While we still have sand on our toes, a drink at Chico Feo before dinner at Jack of Cups. The rest of the week would include a brewery tour: Munkle, Estuary, and Revelry are top of my list.
While touristy, walking downtown Charleston from the battery to the market is a must. The Aiken-Rhett House is my favorite house museum.
Lewis BBQ, R Kitchen, Darling Oyster Bar and FIG would round out the menu.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Brandon encouraged me to quit my corporate job and has supported me wholeheartedly during the ups and downs of business. I would not have made it this far without him.
