We had the good fortune of connecting with Emalie White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emalie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a young business owner, stepping into entrepreneurship felt intimidating at first. However, I was fortunate to have the unwavering support of my family and friends, which made the transition to this new responsibility much smoother. I had always been encouraged to pursue a “side hustle,” but it wasn’t until my mom pointed out my artistic eye for photography that I began to take the idea seriously.

In April, before graduation, I had the opportunity to take senior photos for a friend. I truly enjoyed the experience and decided to post an offer on social media, providing free sessions to anyone interested. After the rush of graduation season passed, I realized I needed to find something meaningful to fill my time. I wasn’t headed to a large university or embarking on big, share-worthy fall plans. Instead, I had chosen to attend a technical college and stay home to save money.

One evening, while sitting in quiet reflection and praying for direction, I asked God for a sign to confirm whether this passion was worth pursuing. That very night, I received a phone call from a former classmate. Her first words were, “Emalie, are you still doing pictures?” In that moment, I knew I had received the confirmation I had been seeking.

I charged $20 for that first session, which lasted two hours—plus countless more in editing. Yet it felt like so much more than just a job. It was a clear “God moment,” affirming that I was exactly where I needed to be. While it can be difficult watching friends head off to big colleges and exciting new adventures, this business became my haven—a space where I could express my creativity, connect with others, and live out my dream in my own unique way.

What should our readers know about your business?
Built on Faith, Fueled by Purpose

My business is founded on one simple truth: Faith. It’s what brought me here, and it’s what continues to guide every step I take. If you know nothing else about me, I hope you know this — Jesus is the foundation of my life, and the heart of my business. Everything I do is rooted in the hope and purpose He’s given me.

What sets me apart isn’t just my skill with a camera — it’s the connection I build with every person I meet. Whether it’s hugging you right after your wedding vows, or handing you a dry towel when our “sunny session” turned into a rainy surprise, I’m there with you — heart and soul. Life is unpredictable, but in those moments, I want you to know you’re more than just a client. You’re a friend.

Being invited into life’s most meaningful moments is a gift I don’t take lightly. The bond we create during those times is what makes this work so fulfilling. You’ll walk away with beautiful images — but I’ll walk away with something too: a lasting connection and a heart full of gratitude.

When you support my business, you’re not just investing in photography — you’re helping me live out the calling God has placed on my life. And that? That’s the best part of all.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit Abbeville for a week, I’d want to give them a real taste of small-town charm. We’d start the first morning at Main Street Coffee Company — they have the best coffee and the coziest atmosphere. After that, we’d walk around the Square, check out the local shops, and stop by some of the cute boutiques like Pink on Pickens Boutique in Abbeville, SC or Sugar in Greenwood, SC! And we can’t skip the antique stores in Abbeville.

One day we’d definitely have lunch at Cold Springs Café or The Rough House. In the evenings, we’d take a walk around the square to enjoy the sights and maybe catch some live music if someone’s playing. We’d also spend some time exploring the scenic areas around the Range in Abbeville, enjoying the outdoors and the beautiful local scenery.

Before they left, we’d have one last coffee at Main Street Coffee Company (because once is never enough!) and just enjoy how peaceful and welcoming Abbeville is. It’s simple, but that’s what makes it special — good people, good food, and that hometown feeling you can’t find anywhere else.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this article to my parents—thank you for your unwavering encouragement, for shaping the person I am today, and for teaching me the true value of living with a servant’s heart. You’ve shown me that life looks profoundly different when viewed through the lens of compassion, humility, and purpose. Your guidance continues to inspire both my work and my character.

In addition to their profound influence in my life, I would also like to dedicate this to my brother, Chandler. Your work ethic, loyalty, and dedication have consistently inspired me. As a successful business owner and entrepreneur yourself, you’ve shown me firsthand what it means to lead with purpose and perseverance. Your Christlike example has been a guiding light in my own journey into business. Thank you for believing in me and for being such a powerful source of inspiration. I love you.
