We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan Kill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dylan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been training in outdoor fitness for a little while loading 600lbs of dbs, medicine balls, cones, and other toys in my car every day. A mentor of mine who runs a veteran non-profit called the WarriorWOD introduced me to the BeaverFit Trailer concept and I was sold. I loved being able to add strength training to the BootCamp setting. I can take my gym to other businesses, races, and host events to advertise! It has been such a game-changer, I’m so glad I did.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The fact that we are outside is my favorite part. Most people are stuck inside all day sitting at a desk with 0 interaction with anyone. Being outside first thing in the morning is probably the best way to start your day, add a workout in and you can’t be stopped! It’s also a great way to take out some work stress at night. One of the biggest challenges I had with the business was getting a loan to start it. It really took me by surprise how hard it would be to get a small business loan for a fraction of what a college degree would cost. It took me around 2-3 months of meetings and phone calls to find someone who saw the same vision as I had in my business. I’m forever grateful for them also!
I’ve learned that it takes a lot to be a business owner. You think you know how much time it takes and the beginning until reality sits in and you are a 1 man army to do it all. I was recommended and read “Who, Not How” and it really helped me with breaking down what I should be doing, and what I should be passing along to other people who are better at that task than I am. Time is valuable
I want to be known as someone who made others better—either just making their day by asking them how they are doing to changing their habits to be the best version of themselves. I know we all are 2 people. The person we see ourselves as, and then the best version. Most of us make too many excuses to not be the best version and I want to be able to help them see it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they were coming to Charleston I’d have to have them first do a workout class with Kill’n It Fitness. Then from there we’d probably go walk around downtown, eat brisket at Lewis BBQ, and probably catch a sunset at Shem Creek

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Andy Frisella and 1st Phorm. Andy is a serial entrepreneur, the founder of 1st Phorm, an author, has the #1 Business Podcast, and a true leader. I have been listening and reading his content for 8 years on business, marketing, strategy, and everything in between.

1st Phorm is a Fitness and Nutrition Company that I have been teamed up with for about 7 years now. The culture and heart of the team is like no other. These are true individuals who want to show up to help you to be the best version of you each and every day. I have made a lot of friends from this company all over the country, all on the same mission to help others be the best versions of themselves. I’m honored to be a part of the mission.
