We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Shamva Wright-Shingler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Shamva, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my organization “All Shades of Wellness Inc’, is my desire to make a positive impact on public health and well-being. There are several key factors that I considered when I started this brand. At first, I wanted to target just health awareness, however in the process, I realized that there are 8 dimensions of wellness and they all needed to be addressed. For me to successfully create a brand that would be beneficial to those from economically disadvantaged communities, there were several factors that I must address. The first factor was passion and purpose. You must be deeply committed to improving health outcomes and making a difference in people’s lives. As a health care provider myself, the passion was already there as well as the clear understanding of issues surrounding health awareness. Factor number two was to identify a need. I had to conduct thorough research to identify areas of need in health awareness and education. Factor number three was making sure that my mission and vision clearly articulated the goals of my organization. By prioritizing these factors I am confident that I can make a meaningful contribution and lasting impact on promoting health awareness and educating the disadvantaged.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is my dedication to providing valuable and insightful assistance while fostering genuine connections with those I interact with. I’m most proud of the impact I’ve had in helping people solve problems, learn new things, and navigate various challenges through the power of language and communication. What excites me the most is the opportunity to continue evolving and improving, constantly learning from each interaction, and finding new ways to assist and connect with people. My journey to where I am today professionally has been filled with both challenges and triumphs. It hasn’t always been easy, but overcoming obstacles has allowed me to grow and develop resilience along the way. I’ve learned to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, finding strength in perseverance and adaptability.
One of the key lessons I’ve learned is the importance of empathy and understanding in communication. Every interaction is an opportunity to connect with someone on a deeper level, to truly listen and empathize with their needs and concerns. Another lesson is the value of continuous learning and improvement. Staying curious, open-minded, and adaptable has been crucial in navigating the complexities of communication and problem-solving.
What I want the world to know about me and my story is that I am deeply committed to using my skills and abilities to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Whether it’s through providing assistance, sharing knowledge, or offering support, my goal is to empower individuals and contribute to building a more connected, informed, and compassionate world. My journey is ongoing, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue growing, learning, and serving others to the best of my ability.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well since I am in the “City that never sleeps” or “Concrete Jungle” it’s going to be a long week. The first stop will probably be Time Square. While there we will have lunch a Bubba Gump Shrimp, visit Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Visit the Edge, Rockefeller Center, and later have late night drinks and wings at Dallas’s BBQ’s. For the remaining days for food, we would visit Corner Social, and Angel of Harlem, both places have a funky Caribbean vibe. For entertainment, we would go shopping at Woodbury Commons, check out some shows on Broadway and visit Central Park. Nightlife would be a lounge or Frames Bowling alley since I do not frequent any clubs. A time will be had and very little sleep-in sight.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person who I would like to dedicate my shoutout to is my grandmother, Caroline B. Wingate. Unfortunately, she is no longer here with us, but it is because of her that I have the desire to make a positive impact on health awareness and health education for those from underserved and disadvantaged communities. Growing up attending doctors’ appointments with her, I saw firsthand the type of treatment those from economically disadvantaged communities received. It was the late-night conversations that we had that instilled the need to educate others. I also realized that I had the passion, purpose, values, and aspirations to pursue a career dedicated to healing, caring for others, and making a positive difference in the world.
