We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Apollo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
When people see a DJ they think its an easy job because we may be having fun and people are enjoying themselves through the music, but we just make it look easy because of the time we’ve put into perfecting the craft.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am DJ Apollo. I’m from South Carolina. I provide music vibes for different events like weddings, parties, concerts and more. What sets me apart from other DJs is I engage with my audience no matter the size of the crowd. I make sure I play music for everybody in the room. I’ve been DJ’ing since 2008 when I was at SC State University. It was not easy starting out. I had to invest in turntables, speakers and my time to learn how to be a DJ. I’m still learning as we speak. To get to the level I’m at now, I just had to stay consistent and put myself in different rooms and markets. Some challenges I’ve faced would be learning how to keep the crowd motivated. Sometimes it can be tough to get the ball rolling with many different factors that can affect a party and I’m always trying to find better ways to execute. Something I’ve learned throughout this journey is, everybody is not your friend and you have to stand on business first. Be transparent from the beginning when doing business. What I would like people to know about me is that I have a true passion for making people enjoy themselves with the music I play. Thats what I do it for.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I’m taking my friend out around here, we’re going to Myrtle Beach. We’re going to hit up Broadway at The Beach and get some food and listen to live music at some of the bars. We can hit up a seafood spot where we can chow down on some crablegs if they’re into seafood, it’s plenty in this area. On a night closer to the weekend I’m taking my friend to Tin Roof on the blvd and we’re going to party with the tourists and CCU students. It’s mad fun. 9 times out of 10 I’m probably booked for a party on a Saturday so we’re definitely going to go to my event and have a good time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my dad Andrew Alston who left me with the tools to move through life.
