We had the good fortune of connecting with Detrich Swain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Detrich, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Pursuing an artistic and creative career gave me the freedom to express myself in a way that I love. Art has no age limit and it adds beauty to the world. I don’t have to worry about a boss standing over my back, I am my own boss.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is that I am 43 years old and I’m showing others that art does not have an age limit and you can be successful at any age if you’re willing to put in the work. I’m most proud and excited about my future and what God has in store for me. I got to where I am today from consistency and believing in myself. And no it definitely isn’t easy and if you are afraid of failure and hearing the word no, then this journey is not for you. I’m still overcoming obstacles presently by not giving up and taking reroutes. Some lessons I’ve learned in this journey is ignoring the naysayers and pay attention to the support. Always keep God first in all that you do. I want the world to know my brand is a reflection of me which is honesty, open mindedness and creativity. My story is just like most of you, I’m just not deciding to give up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The city of Savannah Georgia where I currently live is great for tourists attractions and great southern soul food and seafood. Downtown Savannah and on River street is the locations for fun and different activities. Especially on St. Patrick day, the parades and tourists from all over the country come here for the weekend and have fun. The downtown areas and River street are full of bars and bars on wheels.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would give credit to my business partner Jeremy Hagan for showing me this life can really happen. Thanks to Voyage magazine for giving me a platform. And thanks to God for giving me vision, even if only I can see it.
