We had the good fortune of connecting with Daphne Sumner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daphne, why did you pursue a creative career?
Honestly this career found me. When I left Corporate America I started a Virtual Assistant business. The majority of my background in Corporate was as an Administrative Assistant. Once I left Corporate America I had more time on my hands to do the things I wanted, as well as try new things. I joined a national movement that encouraged and promoted body positivity. Part of this movement was taking photos every quarter to promote the movement. This is where my knack and love for fashion formed. I was creating looks for the photoshoots, and began to help others create looks. I started researching and then took a few workshops on personal styling. The rest is pretty much history. My biggest take away from being a stylist is when my clients come back and say how confident they feel in their clothes, and how happy they are with their new wardrobe choices.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
BlendN’Trendz Style Coaching Services teaches introverted entrepreneurs how to curate a conversational wardrobe by using the Y.O.U. Method. The Y.O.U. Method builds confidence, helps overcome social anxiety, and changes your mindset when it comes to your wardrobe choices. I got where I am today by not giving up and allowing myself grace when I need to take time for myself. No it was not easy. It is still not easy. The way I overcome challenges is by allowing myself grace and the space to reset when I need to. I’ve learned several lessons along the way. But 3 that really stick out are 1. never give up, 2. the people you expect to support you usually aren’t the ones that will. Your support will more than likely come from people you don’t know, personally and 3. If you are doing what you love it won’t ever feel like work.

I want people to know that building a brand is a process. Trust the process. Embrace each step. Success doesn’t happen overnight and your success may not look the same as someone else’s success, and that is ok. Everyone’s story is different and that story changes. As we evolve, so will our business and our story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As an introvert myself, I don’t get out often, (I’m working on being more intentional about changing that). However, when I do get out I enjoy going to the few rooftop lounges we have in my area, There is a cigar lounge, Augusta Cigar Club. Downtown Augusta is a vibe, and so is downtown Aiken. I like to walk and check out the small businesses, boutiques. Some of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat are some of the local food trucks, The Riverwalk is a nice attraction in the area, and the 5th street bridge that features art by several local artists.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ll give a shoutout to my family and friends for their continued support and encouragement throughout this journey.
