We had the good fortune of connecting with Claire Campagna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claire, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I come from corporate burnout, so to me, balance is essential when it comes to creating a sustainable lifestyle & business! For nearly a decade I had a high stress, demanding career that monopolized my time and energy. This constant state of overwhelm and autopilot led to my quarter-life crisis, which spurred my self-discovery journey, and ultimately, the start of my business. I have since left this corporate career and hustle culture behind to start a new, more aligned career path. Among other reasons (like actually using my gifts and doing fulfilling work), I wanted to work for myself so I could personally curate a work/life balance that works for me.
In the context of balancing my professional career goals with my personal life, I am continuing to learn what balance looks and feels like for me. First, I think it’s important to note that balance (like success) should be defined by the individual, as my version of balance may not look the same as it would for you. For me, I have found that balance isn’t a static thing – the definition of “balance” will continue to ebb and flow as my goals and needs evolve over time. Because of this, I have prioritized a couple of practices that help me to maintain balance while staying adaptable as I grow in my personal life & in my business.
One practice that I like to revisit yearly (around my birthday) involves identifying my core values. Getting clear on the few things that genuinely matter most to you right now can be a game changer when it comes to creating balance and making aligned choices on a daily basis. This exercise requires me to be honest with myself – when I notice that something (in my personal life or career) is bringing me further away from what matters most to me, I am now more likely to reevaluate why I am spending my time/energy/money on it. This practice has been essential for me as I tend to experience balance only when I am honoring my core values in all of my choices.
A second practice that is useful in maintaining balance involves monitoring your own energetic ebbs and flows as well as what triggers them. This level of self-awareness can help to prevent you from falling into an autopilot situation, which is often caused by neglecting your core values in the first place. When I began to pay attention to when I was feeling most energized & motivated in my work, I was able to recognize patterns and eventually mold my work schedule to fit better into my personal life. Again, it’s important to recognize that what creates balance will evolve depending on what’s currently going on in your life, so if you’re coming off a period of flow and then notice that things are starting to feel unbalanced – that’s your cue to reevaluate.
Personally, when I am intentional with how I am spending my time & energy while keeping my core values top of mind, I have found that I am far more likely to maintain balance in my life. And when I notice that things are starting to feel imbalanced and ungrounded, that’s my cue to revisit these two things so I can recalibrate. For me, figuring out how much energy I want to dedicate towards my work & my personal life (and allowing it to evolve as I do) is what has helped me to maintain balance in my daily life.
What should our readers know about your business?
If I were to boil down the work I do with others, I’d say that I support people through self-discovery using Human Design and astrology. If you find yourself feeling frustrated and unfulfilled, I am here to help you understand and appreciate your uniqueness on an energetic level. I help my clients to expand their self-perspective & self-compassion through learning how to trust their inner wisdom & leverage their natural gifts so they have the capacity to activate their potential. This process helps clients to forge their own personalized path to freedom and fulfillment in all areas of their lives. Many of my peers prefer to focus on the transits & what’s occurring in the sky right now on an energetic level. I certainly see the value in this, but I prefer to support people in understanding their own personal energy first & foremost.
I found myself on this path as a result of my own quarter-life crisis (during my Saturn return) when I realized that the “success” I had achieved was based on some external definition of the word, not my own. I found that I had been living on autopilot for many years and I had become extremely disconnected from myself, which led me down my own path of self-discovery. I come from a background in engineering and technical consulting, so jumping into the world of astrology felt embarrassing (thanks to external judgments), but I couldn’t deny how much I was shifting as I learned more about myself using this tool.
I quickly became adept at understanding the language of astrology, and then Human Design, and I couldn’t help but share this information to support those around me as well. I could tell that more meaningful work was waiting for me outside of my respectable & stable corporate career, but I was terrified of being judged and shamed for following this highly criticized career path. Not surprisingly, my charts echoed all of this and helped me to develop the self-confidence and self-compassion necessary to follow my unique path, even if others wouldn’t understand it because I knew if I could help the people who were open to it, it would be worth taking this leap of faith.
The path to building my business required me to overcome many fears and officially commit to living authentically no matter the circumstances. This involved quite a bit of deconditioning, inner work, and a desire to see what I had been unwilling to see previously – none of which was easy. That said, this “work” has allowed me to grow and create a life that allows me the ultimate freedom of being myself at all times. My own journey of self-discovery and energetic alignment has also equipped me with the tools to support others through their own versions of this journey.
I am forever grateful for the discomfort that I felt several years ago that led me down the path I’m on now.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My answer to this question is constantly evolving with the rapid growth in our area, but I’d plan a weekend involving a blend of what our area has to offer! As of this writing, I’d probably take friends to explore Camp North End and all of the local vendors there. I’d also make sure to bring them to the greenways around town so they could experience the beautiful green pockets casually tucked all over this urban land. There are way too many restaurants that I’d want to take them to eat dinner, but I’d try to swing in one of the local markets (Reid’s Fine Foods, Rhino Market, Common Market, People’s Market, Pasta & Provisions, etc.) for lunch and if it was a nice day, maybe take them to Charlotte Beer Garden for a chill, plant-filled rooftop experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m grateful to have worked with several amazing mentors and supportive spaces that have helped me to grow and step into my potential. Three that stand out to me are:
*Erica Carrico & her Soul Business Accelerator program: Erica not only helped me to build my business from the ideation stage to what it is today, but she also brought me onto her team to support other entrepreneurs in bringing their dreams to life. From the moment I met her, I knew she would help me to bring the appropriate blend of strategy and intuition to my business and she has supported my evolution each step of the way.
*Mandy Sciacchitano: Mandy is truly the best space holder that I have ever worked with. She is such a gifted intuitive, while remaining grounded, and she has been an incredible mentor when it comes to embodiment. Mandy continues to help me stay clear and focused as I walk my unique path in life and business.
*Habitual Roots: This local nonprofit organization offered me a community focused around wellness and conscious connection when I was going through a massive life transition. This community facilitated some incredible experiences and relationships with people in my local community who actually had similar interests to me. This organization offered the exact type of refreshing energy that I needed in my life when I was seeking deeper, more meaningful connections.
