We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Hutton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cierra, why did you pursue a creative career?
I don’t know that I pursued a creative career as much as it pursued me. Being creative has always been a part of me and Earrings Meadows gives me a way to release that creative energy into stunning designs that women get to enjoy.
I get to reflect natures beauty in my designs, interact with miniatures, and increase my skills and try out new techniques all while listening to music, often with my dachshund or Yorkie at my feet. I love that what I’m designing is purposeful and will last for years, bringing joy to its wearer every time they put it on.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Earring Meadows really was a passion project that turned into a dream job. I have always loved being creative since I was a kid! Crayons and clay were my go to entertainment. My mother and older sister taught me the basics of jewelry making and I was hooked, the colors, the shapes, infinite possibilities! But being the daughter of a single mom, life was busy, and I never had set time to work on designs so my skills were shabby to say the least, that is till I was in my late teens. Though I don’t let my past dictate who I am, I also recognize that I likely wouldnt be who I am without it’s effect. So after going through a traumatic time in my life, I found jewelry making to be very therapeutic and dove into strengthening my skills. Initially I was making stunning double strand necklaces with a high price point, but with guidance from friends and family, gradually I realized I wanted to make pieces that everyone could wear and afford, leading me to earrings.

Initially when I started Earring Meadows I was extremely zealous and eager to get out of debt from it and see profit as well as see how customers viewed my designs. This led me to over exert myself and lost track of the joy I once had, coming very close to burn out multiple times. I learned that balance was essential so I scaled back on the amount of events I would attend each month, even recognizing that summer months were way to hot to engage in outdoor festivals. Finding that balance brought back my joy and creativity and taught me there is so much more to life than just making money!

From the start I only had one rule, every pair would be one of a kind, just like women are one of a kind. This led to making earrings unlike any I had seen on the market before. Earrings that reflected women’s unique inner beauty and passions. Each pair is inspired by nature or designs around us and made with high quality materials from a variety of sources to add to their unique beauty. You will often see charms in my designs as these allow women to express their own unique passions, such as a love for traveling, bird watching or being dog lovers. When prices inflated, I actually lowered my prices so that women from nearly every stage of womanhood could still afford a unique pair of their own or many if they desired to have a collection.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend coming for a week long trip they would definitely need to visit downtown Greenville, Only recently have I began to discover just how many amazing and unique places there are downtown including beautiful art galleries with local artists, For lunch we would definitely get a sandwich from the Swamp Mart made on their fresh daily bread! We would take these sandwiches to Falls park and find a shady spot to enjoy the view and sounds of the city. For dessert, we would go to Byrds Famous Cookies for divine cookies in every flavor from key lime pie to peach cobbler! I would definitely visit Gather Greenville, a place full of good food and a great place to bring friends and socialize, while listening to live music. I’d also bring friends to the many waterfalls around SC and enjoy the swamp rabbit trail as well as the Commons inside Unity Park, stopping for Automatic Tacos Fish N Chips Taco.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to Each member of my little family, my mom, my sister, brother in law, and my many friends.
Being raised by a single, hardworking and always loving, self sacrificing mom, I am very close to my family, and spend much of my time with them and with good friends. She taught my sister and I to work hard and love harder, enjoying life even when it was tough. As a Christian, She taught us to respect and appreciate God’s creation and his impact on our lives so I have grown up with True Christian values that shape every part of who I am. My older sister and I, though 10 years apart, might as well be twins, as were close as sisters can be and we have always supported eachothers dreams, and mended eachothers broken hearts. My brother in law filled the role of the brother I never had by being my supporter, my protector and forever adding to the joy and laughter in my life! I’m so grateful for each of you!
My life would be so empty without my amazing friends, you know who you are, so thank you for being you!
