We had the good fortune of connecting with Ciera Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ciera, what do you attribute your success to?
Authenticity and genuinely caring about the people that we help! Dog training and supporting families and their dogs can be surprisingly vulnerable at times so our goal is to always meet people with empathy and kindness as we work towards improving dog behavior. When we meet people with this level of kindness and support, word of mouth recommendations spread like wildfire and we don’t often have to do much active advertising!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are a professional dog training company that specializes in private lessons individualized to each family and dog’s needs. As we work on helping each family and their dog we follow a humane hierarchy that ensures we are following an ethical guideline for decision making when it comes to the welfare and emotional well being of the dog. What really sets us apart is the collaborative nature of our team of dog trainers! We are currently spread across 5 states but regularly meet to discuss our cases and provide ideas and support to each other. Our clients are essentially getting experience and ideas from 4 additional professional dog trainers while working with one of us!
I have been so fortunate to have met each of the people on our team in various ways throughout my career. As a military spouse we moved often and had the privilege of meeting my team through all of the moves. It was always very tough to pick up my business and move but I never would have found my amazing team if we had not! After so many moves I feel like a professional at starting fresh and local networking with other small business owners has always been the key re starting my business in a new location!
At Canine Defined we are launching The Dog Training Collective. This is the idea that we are all better when our ideas and experiences training dogs are shared to ensure our clients and their dogs have the best possible outcomes. In a world where dog trainers can be very divisive and shame people, our goal is to move forward together with the shared goal that our dogs and their people deserve better!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are still newer to this area but so far our favorite places are the Soda City farmers market on Saturdays and a hike at Sesquicentennial State Park!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Julie Parra, Meg Holsinger, Nicolette Myszkowski, Holly Daley
