We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Church and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe, how do you think about risk?
I think it is very important to take risks. Risks spark change. So many people keep asking me if I am scared the people in my book are going to come after me. I am not scared because I would rather start a conversation and create change then live in fear and watch nannies and other domestic staff be manipulated and put in unsafe conditions, regularly.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I wrote Nanny Nightmares to start a much needed, larger conversation about nanny mistreatment and unsafe conditions we can be put in. This is more towards the high profile industry but can also happen anywhere. I have found myself on undocumented private jets, forbidden from mentioning where I will be going, for how long, who I am with, who I work for etc. On this trip the kids chased me around the house with scissors, pulled my hair out of my head, cursed me out and the list goes on. I begged the mom for respect and she responded “absolutely not this is a *insert prominent address here* you should be grateful to even be here! We only pay the *insert another prominent address* a quarter of what we pay you!” These people are billionaires.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Charleston is where it is AT! Downtown – try a walking tour or horse drawn carriage during the day and at night I love Ink and Uptown Social. Mudhouse Coffee on King St is my favorite. Not only do they serve amazing coffee but there is a lovely garden area to relax in their shop. Their shop is also nearby great shops and right across from Marion Square (beautiful park).
Sullivan’s Island is my favorite beach for a chill vibe but Folly is where it is at if you want a drink on the beach (at Blu only).
Shem Creek in Mount pleasant is a very fun place to take a paddle board or kayak and row up to Saltwater Cowboys or Reds for some food and drinks!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My best friend Jackie Polcino, has not only been my rock but is also my motivation. She is the HARDEST worker I know and excels at everything she does!
I want to also thank my family for being so supportive. I also want to thank my doggy, Binx. She gets me out of bed everyday with a purpose that brings me so much joy. <3
