We had the good fortune of connecting with chelsea thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi chelsea, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor of my success is staying true to my brand and my style. Sometimes my co-worker aka my mom and I clash over what I should make next. We have different styles and visions for things and just because I can or could probably figure out how to make it, I ask myself do I want to, does it match my vision, and is it true to my brand. I don’t want my work to become a knickknack, or just a version of a hobby anybody can do. I want it to be seen as luxury cozy home decor that’s takes time and effort.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My first year in business was a flop. We had one decent market and I thought I knew what I was in for and totally expected to sell out. I really underestimated the marketing and promotion side of the business. A lot of research and funds went into year 2 to make the brand an actual brand . The power of social media is unmatched and it’s something I’m still trying to figure out. Making content is not for the weak! But I am so determined to make Kozy Korner more then an idea in my head. I want to be a household name. Our second year of business we ended up participating in about 40 markets in our second year of business and connected with a ton of people. Each year we get better then before and we continue to fine tune new products before we offer them. I am welcoming our third year with open arms!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Weather permitting we would hit the beach for sure – isle of palms or Sullivan island are my favorite spots so far. Lewis bbq after the beach for some brisket and Mac and cheese.

I haven’t fully explored Charleston yet, but a few other exciting events I have attended are the Black food truck festival, Charleston night bazaar, and the Charleston night market. There are always so many markets, festivals, and events around the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Cai Candle Company became a friend and great business contact when Levi’s Kozy Korner relocated to the Charleston area. She makes amazing scented candles and has been a joy to work with.
