We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlise Mills and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlise, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work-life balance is something that has evolved significantly for me over time, especially as a mom to both a teenager and a young child. When I first started my real estate career, my focus was primarily on building my business and establishing myself in the industry. As my family grew and my children’s needs changed, I realized the importance of creating a balance that allows me to be fully present both at home and in my work.

I now see work-life balance as a dynamic process that requires constant adjustment and intentionality. With my 17-year-old preparing for his senior year in high school and my 5-year-old starting kindergarten between swim lessons, soccer, and him receiving specialized services, I’ve had to refine my approach to balancing everything. Sticking to a schedule is crucial—I rely heavily on having systems in place for my business, setting clear expectations with clients, and being disciplined about time management.

What’s made all the difference is my support system. My village of family, friends, and colleagues is indispensable in helping me juggle my responsibilities. They allow me to be there for my children when they need me, whether it’s attending school events, therapies, or cheering them on at soccer games, while also meeting the demands of my real estate career.

Family is at the heart of why I do what I do. They inspire me to work hard and to build a legacy that will benefit them in the long run. This perspective has shifted how I think about balance—I no longer strive for perfection but rather for a harmonious integration where both my family and business can thrive together. It’s about being flexible, prioritizing what’s truly important, and understanding that sometimes balance means giving more to one area than another, depending on what’s needed at the time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career as a REALTOR® has been a journey of growth, learning, and heartfelt connections. What sets me apart is my deep commitment to my clients and my genuine heart for people. I approach each client as an individual, recognizing that buying or selling a home is a significant life event that varies greatly from person to person. Real estate is, at its core, a relationship business, and I don’t take those relationships lightly. I’m honored that my clients choose to work with me, knowing they could have chosen anyone else. This drives me to provide the best possible service and to build lasting relationships based on trust and mutual respect.

The real estate market is constantly changing, and it’s not always easy to navigate those shifts. But my drive and work ethic have helped me rise to the challenge. I’ve learned to adapt, stay informed, and remain resilient, even when the market is unpredictable. I’m proud of my ability to guide my clients through these changes with confidence and care, ensuring that they feel supported and informed every step of the way.

Getting to where I am today has not been easy. There have been challenges along the way, from balancing family life with a demanding career to navigating the complexities of the real estate market. But I’ve always approached these challenges with determination and a willingness to learn. I’ve embraced the hard work, knowing that each challenge is an opportunity to grow and improve. My faith, my family, and my support system have been instrumental in helping me overcome obstacles and stay focused on my goals.

Along the way, I’ve learned some valuable lessons. I’ve learned the importance of staying true to my values, of being patient and persistent, and of always putting my clients’ needs first. I’ve also learned that success is not just about the numbers—it’s about making a positive impact in people’s lives and building a legacy that lasts.

What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that I’m here to make a difference. I’m passionate about helping people achieve their real estate goals, whether they’re buying their first home, upgrading to their dream home, or investing in their future. I’m not just selling houses; I’m helping people build their lives and create memories. My brand is built on trust, integrity, and a deep commitment to my clients and my community. I’m excited about the future and the opportunity to continue growing my business while making a positive impact in the lives of those I serve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Charleston for a week, I’d craft an itinerary that captures the city’s essence and offers a diverse array of experiences. We’d start with a delightful brunch at Millers All Day, From there, we’d explore historic downtown, enjoying its charming streets and beautiful architecture, and visit the Charleston City Market. We’d also make time for a scenic sunset boat ride and cocktails at The Dewberry’s rooftop bar, soaking in the stunning waterways and city views because it’s always about the vibes. We’d dive into Charleston’s rich history with visits to one of Charleston’s museums , The African American History museum being one of my favorites and more than likely visit seafood at local favorite seafood restaurants like Gillie’s Seafood or Ellis Creek Fish Camp. And can’t forget the fine dining experience at one of my favs Oak Steakhouse.
For a touch of local flavor, we’d explore Deep Water Vineyard for a wine tasting, indulge in homemade ice cream at Park Circle Creamery, and visit Firefly Distillery for a taste of local spirits. Catching a local festival or event would be a great way to experience Charleston’s vibrant community.
A game of pickleball and spend a relaxing afternoon at the beach.
Charleston offers a blend of great food, cultural experiences, and outdoor fun, making it an ideal destination for an unforgettable visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to start by thanking God, who is my source and the foundation of everything I do. My unwavering faith has been the anchor that keeps me grounded and focused on my purpose.

I also want to express my deepest gratitude to my family and support system, who have been there since day one, cheering me on and helping me navigate the ups and downs of this journey. To my children—you are my biggest motivation and inspiration. Thank you for your understanding and patience when mom has to work, even when it means missing out on a little time together.

A special shoutout goes to my mentor and Team Lead, Shakeima Chatman. Your guidance, support, and prayers have been invaluable. You’ve kept me focused, helped me grow as a REALTOR®, and shown me what it means to lead with both heart and excellence. I am incredibly grateful for the example you’ve set and the impact you’ve had on my career.

Lastly, to every friend, colleague, and client who has believed in me and supported my business—thank you. Your encouragement has fueled my drive to be the best I can be, and I am so thankful to have you all as part of my journey.
