Meet Bruce Ellis | Tattooist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bruce Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bruce, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from the Midwest, Richmond Indiana to be exact. My family moved to the south when I was probably 12, around 1984 or so. Being from the Midwest in the 1970’s you are basically born with a strong work ethic. We had and still have family that owned and worked farms. No time for laziness on a farm. My brother and I were shipped back to work our Uncle and Aunts dairy farm while on summer break from school. Lol, that wasn’t exactly the summer I’d planned. It taught me many things, for one hard work and what it achieves.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own HWY 1Tattoo Co. located at 2546 D Main St in Elgin South Carolina. We have been at this location since 2020 and see no end in site. We have a wonderful client base with new clients added daily. We do all styles of tattooing at HWY 1 Tattoo Co but lean towards black and grey, realism and illustrative styles. I have learned so many valuable lessons opening and running businesses, the most important probably being patience and to look for the silver lining. At HWY 1 Tattoo Co we do quality work that lasts a lifetime with the professionalism that you deserve!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My clients. That’s hands down the secret behind my career. I can’t say enough about them. If not for them I would not be able to do what I love to do everyday. They are the secret sauce, if you will. They support my business and my ability to create art for them.
