We had the good fortune of connecting with Breylon Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breylon, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
If you’re still breathing keep going. You may have to pause pray and prepare. But keep going.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
YBA was created because 3 Greenville natives (Andre Sullivan, Justus Cox, and myself) were tired of hearing people say the youth are lost but not trying to guide them anywhere. We knew that people were afraid of the work. We weren’t and will never be because we know we are doing Gods work. We have had our ups and down these 6 years of operations but we are blessed to be able to say to this point we haven’t received any grants. We have run solely on community support. We said and believe this program will live on past us and we are doing everything in our power to be sure that YBA expands and touches the world. Our program will be global one day because young brothers around the world need a safe space to come be educated empowered and exposed to the greatness inside themselves but also a safe space and YBA is that space. The biggest lesson I’ve learned through all of this is simply trust God. When we started we had an idea a logo and a prayer but we have been blessed to thrives and we plan to continue to do just that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I haven’t been “outside” in a while since the birth of my babygirl. But I’d take them to see a hockey game. Hockey was my first love. I miss playing the game extremely. But after the game I’d take them to the dugout for some wings after that we’d probably just go back to my house or a family member house and be around family good drinks and good food. I’ve become somewhat of homebody since becoming a father honestly.
