We had the good fortune of connecting with Brett Ensley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brett, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought was based on learning music with a community. Growing up I never had a lot of opportunities to have a place where I could play with other musicians, student and pro level, in the art of performing live at nice venues or to record music with artist at a pro recording studio. In addition, having a community to support artist with their original music being performed live and recorded at a studio. Our core beliefs are no artist should feel alone, music should be learned through doing, and music is a collaborative effort. True learning means performance, studio, and band experience-all of which we offer in our programs. We prepare student artists to learn how to play with others. Rather than individually, so they gain the experience of working professionally and seeing music as collaborative, not competitive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My background is that I did Trailer music for the Black Widow, Call of Duty, and Modern Warfare. I did music for BMW and Harley Davidson commercials. In addition scored music for Profitt, Shark Tank, and Cartoon Network. I won five awards for the Movie “Sereer”, which included Best Score at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards, International Independent Film Awards 2016, Hollywood International Independent Documentary Awards, Hollywood International Moving Pictures Film Festival, and Christian Film Festival 2016.
Being in the music industry is very tough and demanding. You constantly have to work diligently at your craft. And above all, learning how to make connections. My knowledge and background, plus my team who is very knowledgeable, is what gives the ability to train and push artists and musicians to reach their potential. We have to train students to leave their insecurities and egos at the door and lets learn as a team together. At Brett Ensley Studios, we are continuing to build our community, which in return helps the students to practice networking and to be collaborators. The hard lessons I had to learn is I can’t do this alone. The is our big motto “Community”. We teach students to help and encourage one another. That’s why our platforms are performing big Artist Showcases Downtown Greenville. The most exciting thing I have witness is seeing students cheering each other on at rehearsals and the shows. Being willing to do whatever it takes for the artists and bands to succeed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My spots would be to take him to the Hidden Lake and waterfalls at Dupont National Forrest. The mountain biking and hiking trails are amazing. Whitewater rafting a Chattoga River would be next on the list. Then take him to get Drinks and to see bands at The Foundry and Radio Room. For as eating, I would take him to Soby’s or the Trappe Door. Then walk and show him all the new buildings in Downtown Greenville. Then Finish the week seeing a baseball game at Fluor Stadium.
