We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Kaufman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I grew up in a home that hosted all the parties and I loved every moment of it. We shared potlucks, bbq’s, grilling out, the list can go on. Charcuterie to me, brings the best of both worlds together. Sharing beautiful and delicious food with people you enjoy being around while taking your mind off of real life for a little while is the whole reason Gather was created. Gather Charcuterie LLC was thought out and brought to life through the soul purpose of people gathering and sharing their love of food.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
From scrubbing on a Cardiothoracic surgical team to entering the wonderful world of food art and business, this has been a big learning curve. my brain has never had to learn the business rules, laws, and requirements that come into play with owning your own business. I am learning something new every day, but I am thankful for all the great advice and help I have received thus far!
Charcuterie for our clients is more than just a platter of assorted meats, cheeses, and accompaniments—it’s an immersive experience that engages all the senses. Each carefully selected and artfully arranged component tells a story, transforming a simple snack into a journey of flavors and textures. The rich, savory meats complement the creamy, delicate cheeses, while the fresh fruits, nuts, and artisanal crackers add a perfect balance of sweetness and crunch.
The visual appeal of a well-crafted charcuterie board captivates the eye, setting the tone for a memorable gathering or corporate event. It encourages conversation and connection, as clients explore the unique pairings and share in the joy of discovery. Whether enjoyed during a casual meeting or a sophisticated soirée, charcuterie elevates the dining experience, making every bite a celebration of craftsmanship and taste.
What I am most excited about is how far we have come in just a year. We have been asked by the U.S. National Guard, U.S. Army, and local hospitals all for separate events, creating beautiful grazing tables for some of their Apache pilots’ final flights, retirement parties, and Christmas parties! It has been so exciting to work with such prominent organizations already and have the opportunity to get our name out in such a significant way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
From only living here for the last two in a half years, it has been an exciting time learning what my new favorite places are around this amazing city. Without a doubt we would be going to my favorite restaurant in downtown Columbia, Hendrix. From their delicious food, cocktails and fun rooftop bar, it would be an evening to remember. For daytime food and mimosas we could never skip out of The Gourmet Shop in Five Points. From their amazing in store shopping, to their deli, and wine tasting it feels like you have transported yourself into Italy. Also, their tomato bisque is the best I have ever had. For some daytime activities, walking around the capital, and riverwalk is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and see so much beauty.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All of my success comes from the motivation, encouragement, and love from my amazing fiancé Jon, along with all of my friends and family. I could not have made it this far in just a year if it were not for them.
