We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Cameron and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Thank you for having me! Yeah, I mean taking risks is honestly one of the best things you can do when starting a new business, especially if you’re a creative like me. Playing it safe in work (and in life) rarely gets you noticed and you miss so many experiences and opportunities if you shy away from the spotlight.
I’m an actor, so I wouldn’t have the opportunity to grow as a performer if I only played one role. I have to challenge myself with new characters and new experiences all the time. It’s the same with business. You have to try new things, experiment with different ideas, and fail. But every risk you take opens up new opportunities, like working with clients outside your niche.
Playing it safe is honestly boring. So push those boundaries, take that leap! Risks can lead to breakthroughs, and if you fail you still get to learn.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an actress and the owner of a brand studio, Cameraon Creative, my art is all about storytelling. But, what sets me apart is how I use my background in the film industry to create branding that is not only visually striking, but emotionally impactful. I see every project, whether it’s a film role or a brand design, as an opportunity to tell a story that resonates with audiences on a deeper level.
What I’m most proud of is taking the opportunity to build a career that is authentic to me. I’ve created a brand studio that reflects my personal passion for design, while still pursuing my acting career and coaching actors and professionals alike. But, my path wasn’t easy. I faced years of countless rejections in acting, and starting a business as a new mom was scary and came with plenty of doubt. But, I was so fortunate to have a support system and I just kept getting back up and pushing myself onward. I found that, both in acting and entrepreneurship, authenticity is more important than perfection, your uniqueness is what makes you shine.
I want people to know that Cameraon Creative is rooted in passion and resilience. My brand studio is a reflection of everything I’ve learned through acting, motherhood, and entrepreneurship. It’s a space where my creativity thrives, and where I help others tell their stories in a bold, meaningful way. I believe in pushing boundaries and staying true to yourself, and that’s the story I want to share with the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh! Fun question. Assuming that I would have a week of childcare assistance I would say:
Day 1: Welcome to Charleston! I would make this a big touristy day and grab coffee and a savory breakfast croissant at Clerks Coffee (it’s so beautiful). Then we’d stroll around the market and have lunch at Port of Call and sit by the outdoor firepit and listen to some live music. In the afternoon, we’d walk down Rainbow Row and to Battery Park with a quick stop at Pineapple Fountain for photos. We’d wrap up the night with dinner at Husk for some locally sourced, Southern-inspired dishes.
Day 2: I would have us hop to Park Circle for a fun family day and go wherever the wind takes us! Pizza? Check. Oysters? Yes, (if it’s a month that ends in “R”). And end the day at Holy City Brewing for hopefully trivia night and some awesome music.
Day 3: We’d probably do a little history day. First, a visit to Middleton Place and then to Charleston Delicatessen to grab some AMAZING sandwiches and take them to Ashley River Park with the fam. Then we could head downtown for the rest of the day and have a lovely walk and dinner absolutely must be at Xiao Bao Biscuit and then late night jazz at the Commodore!
Day 4: We go to the Children’s Museum! I am embarrassed to say that I’ve never taken my kids, SO LET’S GO! We can grab a fun lunch anywhere downtown and keep it chill in the evening.
Day 5: What about a beach day! Folly Beach or IOP depending on our mood with a picnic lunch and dinner downtown, maybe Church and Union!
Day 6: We would have an entire day of rating BBQ- Rodney Scott’s BBQ vs. Poogans Smokehouse vs. Bessinger’s. And maybe we could go to the Dock Street Theater, THE FIRST THEATER IN AMERICA, for a show!
Day 7: Let’s end the week with brunch at The Watch Rooftop and then just walk King Street to pop into shops and get any last minute gifts. Just let our feet take us around historic downtown and say goodbye to charming Charleston.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to my incredibly supportive husband, my true north, Andrew! We’ve been through so much together and you have been the most amazing father to our two beautiful babies. I couldn’t be more grateful for your love and endless audition help! You’ve been there through the roller coaster of my creative endeavors, cheering me on and sometimes holding me together. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you by my side. Thank you for being the best partner and father, I’m so lucky to have you.
