We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Booth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, I’m not sure if there was ever a moment where I decided “ hey, I think I want to try starting my own business” I started making craft jewellery shortly after my son was born. I was going through some postpartum depression, and I wanted something to focus on that with try and help getting through that, and making simple craft jewelry seemed like an OK place to start. I just started with small leather, cut out earrings and things like that. I eventually decided to start playing with clay as I knew I enjoyed sculpting. I had a small social media following. One local woman nearby tragically lost her young son, and asked if I would be willing to try making something with his cremains. I agreed, and made the piece for her, I shared it on social media and got more requests. I continued making pieces for people with their loved ones or their pets ashes. I have actually got a request for Breastmilk, so I figured out how I would process the breastmilk into a powder and made pieces shared them online and got more requests for them. It was just by happenstance that things got shared online in the right places and expand it from there. I just kept saying yes to peoples requests.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think would set me apart from others, is kind of a people pleasing aspect, where I continue to say yes to requests as much as possible. Having one on one consultations for custom orders, and working with passion in every piece that I do. Sculpting things by hand with clay is a big difference from other artists. It makes every piece so unique.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Jesse has been amazing support through all of this. He has always had my back with any decision that I wanted to make, or any leaps that I thought would be best for what has become my company. He has done what he could to look after the children in the household, and has even quit his full-time job to come home and help with consultations.
