We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Auler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, why did you pursue a creative career?
I always knew I wanted to write books, but it wasn’t until I was twenty-one years old that I decided I wanted to be published by thirty. But once I published it (a year early!) it hit me that if I wanted this to be successful, I would have to start running this self-publishing gig as a business, not just a hobby. A second book later, and here we are!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently write Young Adult fantasy books that ask deep questions through the art of storytelling. I’m also a Christian and being able to weave my beliefs through my story (whether I’m trying to or not) is very fulfilling. It hasn’t been an easy road as I have three children (and one on the way) and finding time to write and run my business has only grown more difficult as they’ve gotten needed more of me. On the business side of things, learning not only how to write novels but also how to publish them has been an exercise in it of itself. I feel like I wear 10,000 hats most days. Youtube was my best friend during those seasons of learning, you truly can learn to do anything there! If you’re doing something you love you will make the time to not only learn how but to complete it. I love every part of the writing process and am so thankful I didn’t give up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m actually from Pittsboro, NC but last year my best friend and I did a road trip to Greenville, SC for the weekend! I had visited before and fell in love with the waterfall park downtown, the bookstore, and the rooftop bar. I made sure to take my friend to all of those spots.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family have been the biggest support in my writing. Between my husband, my parents, my in-laws, and my siblings I have had so much help with not only the story but also watching the kids! Now, a lot of my help comes from a great community of writers online as well.
