We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison DeVore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, is there something you believe many others might not?
Everyone says to stick to a niche in photography, but offering a range of services has been advantageous for my photography business. I’ve found that sticking to a single niche can be creatively limiting. By embracing a range of photography styles, I’ve discovered numerous growth opportunities and expanded my network beyond just portrait photography. This versatility has not only kept my work engaging but has also opened doors to valuable connections and collaborations in various fields such as construction, healthcare, safety, wildlife and more. This versatility can often lead to greater innovation for me. Therefore, being a “jack of all trades” doesn’t necessarily mean sacrificing mastery.

As a visual storyteller, my approach to photography is rooted in simplicity. I believe that the quiet, gentle moments often tell the most powerful stories. My work isn’t about grand gestures or elaborate setups—it’s about capturing the raw, honest beauty in everyday life, especially here in my South Carolina and in my community. From coast to coast, every place I’ve photographed has contributed to my growth, refining my skills and sharpening my eye, but South Carolina holds a special place in my heart, and it’s where I feel most connected.

At my core, I’m just a simple person who loves taking photos. I seek out the moments that are often overlooked—the soft light at sunrise, a quiet exchange between loved ones, or the peaceful stillness in nature. Whether it’s a wedding, a milestone, or working on safety and healthcare projects, my focus is always on creating images that make a difference.

There are challenges behind the scenes—managing business logistics, staying competitive, and adapting to unpredictable weather. But at the end of the day, it’s always been about the simple joy of documenting a moment. I’m not chasing big ambitions or complicated success; I just want to create work that brings comfort and connection.

In capturing life’s grandest occasions, I find that true beauty lies not only in the extraordinary but also in the simple moments that often go unnoticed, reminding us to pause, reflect, and appreciate the richness of everyday life.
