We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Centry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what do you attribute your success to?
Being a lifelong student. I’m constantly learning how to be a better standup comedian and content creator. I love finding that one little tweak that takes a joke or Instagram reel from good to great, & that usually comes from the research I’m doing behind the scenes

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I do music video reviews for social media content. I grew up watching 106 & Park and TRL, which is where my love for music videos comes from. My most successful review was on Usher’s ‘U Remind Me’ video, and that’s where most of my social media following came from. The reviews aren’t easy to do; between watching the videos, writing jokes for the review, filming, and editing, it takes hours just to complete one. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to ‘just post it.’ There have been plenty of jokes I’ve written for my reviews that I didn’t think were good, but the world is a big place, and usually, someone out there likes that joke. It was a challenge to get over the fear of embarrassment, worrying that people wouldn’t like my work, but ultimately, you have to remember that no one is 100% liked

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Charlotte NC so I’m not sure if answering this question would work for your publication. But if you still want me to write an answer for this one, let me know

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to the Charlotte comedy scene! I’ve received an abundance of opportunities and guidance from local comedians and wouldn’t have accomplished half of what I’ve done without them.

In particular, I want to shout out Don Garrett and Christian Johnson. Don and I started performing standup around the same time, and he’s always been someone I’ve looked to for motivation, as he’s consistently worked hard at his craft. Christian is someone I’ve kind of watched from afar. He’s blown up on social media and become a touring comedian as a result. Seeing how seriously he took social media and what it did for his career motivated me to invest more time in doing the same
