We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Poore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonathan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been a bit of a neat freak. I loved organizing the toy box more than playing with the toys. In my previous career I worked in visual merchandising. that is sort of like bring order to chaos daily, but not quite the same as what I do now. I would take side jobs helping people with organization on the weekends. It was so gratifying to see how what I did helped and brought peace to others. For years my best friend told me I should go out on my own. I was nervous to do that. I had a steady job with benefits but not the satisfaction. In 2018 I finally decided to pull the trigger. It wasn’t so much that I wanted to have my own business, but that I really wanted to organize everyday. I see a mess and get excited at the possibilities. After 6 years, I am so glad that I made the jump. I love having my own business. I have flexibility and the satisfaction of knowing my work is making a direct impact on lives.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Ok, so not art in the traditional way, but I do think of it as a work of art. Each client has a unique space with its own unique challenges. I look at each project as a chance to reform a space that has become a mess into functionality with beauty. My previous career on visual merchandising kicks in when I go to make a space aesthetically pleasing. If I had to pick a brand, I would say it’s bring order to chaos. A lot of people live with the mess in “that” space. I hear from many clients that they are embarrassed. The truth is, there is no reason to be embarrassed. Life events can over take you and chaos ensues, Once that happens it feels all so overwhelming to deal with. That’s where I kick in. The biggest the mess, the more exciting the project. what seems like a disaster to you is a puzzle to be solved. Talking with clients, getting to know their story and what certain items mean to them help me create a space that is functional, but pretty. The challenge of my business is that if I get it right, they shouldn’t need me again. I want my clients to have a space they can keep up. the biggest lesson I have learned is that with a small business word of mouth is everything. I strive to deliver the very best I can so my clients will tell others. A referral from a a client is the highest compliment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Greenville has so much to offer! There’s the Swap Rabbit Trail that winds its way through the upstate. you can walk, run, or bike. Along the way there are places to stop and grab a bite or something to drink. Downtown Greenville is also a fantastic place to grab dinner and a show at the Peace Center. I grew up here, and the city has transformed downtown into a vibrant citral center of activity with so many amazing places to eat. If you’re a wine fan, there are a lot of great wineries to pop into in the area. There are also a lot of great antique and thrift shops around that pair well with a few wineries in the afternoon. I know this next place isn’y technically in the upstate, but it’s right next door in NC, and that’s Biltmore. No matter what season you go it’s an experience to take in, Christmas is extra magical. The Winery and village at Biltmore is worth stopping by while on the property. If you love to hike, there are lot’s of places to go and explore. Honestly, there’s something for everyone here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So I have two people that shout out. First, my husband. He was a little nervous for me to step away from a steady paycheck and benefits, but he believed in me. He told me that if this was something I wanted to do he would support me and we would make it work. Now he jokes and calls me his retirement plan. The second person is my best friend Laura. She has owned her own interior design business for 20+ years and was a major push for me to consider taking the leap. she told me for years that I should be doing this full-time, but I just couldn’t convince myself of it. Well, she was right…
