We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Appleby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After making the decision to step out of full time work to spend more time with my kids, I thought it might be fun to start documenting and sharing some of the places and events we went to around Charleston and the Lowcountry to help other families get out and about to explore this beautiful place where we live. I knew nothing about Instagram at the time, but took a leap of faith and started @littlesinthelowcountry

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love Charleston and the Lowcountry, it truly is one of the best places to raise a family. I know so many families are longing for opportunities to get out and enjoy all this area has to offer and it has been so fun to get to share those things with them. My biggest hope and goal with Littles in the Lowcountry is to get families out and exploring together. For them to create memories as a family that will last.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Too many amazing spots to choose from, but we always love Sullivan’s Island! A day at the beach followed by Poe’s Tavern or Obstinate Daughter is always fun. Shem Creek is also a must visit for us! My kids love exploring the boardwalk and the Marsh plus so many delicious spots to grab a drink or a meal.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many amazing people who have helped me along the way as I’ve learned this world of social media. My husband, Thomas, and family have been incredibly supportive. Fellow Charleston creators like Vi (@hoangviton), Brianna (@adventuresofatwinmom), Lexi (@chswithkids), Abby (@charlestontoddlers), Katie (@chsworkingmoms), and Alye (@thingstodoincharleston) are just a few of the many who have been so helpful as I’ve grown. Plus so many incredible local Charleston businesses and organizations who have trusted me to share about who they are.
