We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Bukowsky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Owning my own business has been an adventure and I definitely learned that a few habits were crucial to my success.
1. Be consistent with content on social media, marketing and engaging with your audience and customer base. This keeps your finger on the pulse of what is working and what isn’t.
2. Give the people what they want. Listening to my customers has helped me determine so many things over the years! If your audience doesn’t respond to something move on and try something else!
3. Be flexible and open to change and try not to get attached to certain products or ideas. If they aren’t working be ready to move forward and try something new!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My brand all started by mistake! I had 3 young children and a limited budget to buy new furniture so I started selling what I owned and used that money to buy what I wanted. Over time, I noticed trends and what other people were looking for and started buying things simply to resell them. I amassed a small amount of cash and eventually had to come clean to my husband who had no idea what I was up to. He was floored!
Over time my brand has evolved as people’s preferences, interior design and trends change. I try to change along with it and pivot my brand as needed.
I created a second brand (STAY Luggage Racks) and product by paying attention to the market, trying different things and listening to my customers. Staying open minded can put an idea right in front of you that you had never thought of before!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Charleston has incredible restaurants, beautiful beaches and stunning historic neighborhoods to explore!
I would definitely visit Folly Beach for some laid back cocktails at Revelry Brewery and a bite to eat at Chico Feo after a quick dip in the ocean.
Downtown I would meander through the beautiful neighborhoods off Broad Street and walk the Battery. Then have a delicious dinner at Little Jack’s Tavern.
Endless options in Charleston!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been the biggest cheerleader and supporter since day 1.
I could not do any of this without him!
