We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakesha Quarles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lakesha, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Finding the perfect work-life balance is a constant journey that evolves over time. As a doula, business owner, mom, and instructor, my balance has shifted as my responsibilities and priorities have changed. I used to struggle with juggling all my roles, but as I’ve grown and learned to prioritize self-care and boundaries, I’ve found a better equilibrium.

I now see balance as not just about dividing my time between work and personal life, but also about finding harmony in all aspects of my life. It’s about knowing when to say no, setting boundaries, and making time for myself to recharge. Balancing my roles as a doula, business owner, mom, and instructor is a delicate dance, but one that I navigate with grace and intention.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, SunFlower Births, is a culmination of my passion for supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. What sets SunFlower Births apart is my holistic approach to maternal care, encompassing physical, emotional, and mental well-being to ensure that every mother feels empowered, informed, and nurtured throughout their journey into motherhood.

I am most proud of the personalized and compassionate care I provide to each woman I work with. I am excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of mothers and families, guiding them through the transformative experience of childbirth with knowledge, support, and understanding.

My path to where I am today in my business has been a challenging yet rewarding one. Building SunFlower Births required dedication, perseverance, and a deep commitment to my mission of empowering women. It was not easy, as I faced obstacles and setbacks along the way. However, through resilience, continuous learning, and a strong support system, I overcame these challenges and grew both personally and professionally.

One of the key lessons I have learned on this journey is the importance of self-care and setting boundaries. As a doula, business owner, mom, and instructor, it is crucial to prioritize my own well-being in order to effectively support others. I have also learned the value of adaptability and flexibility in the ever-evolving field of maternal care.

I want the world to know that SunFlower Births is more than just a business – it is a source of empowerment, compassion, and guidance for mothers embarking on the beautiful journey of motherhood. My brand and story are rooted in authenticity, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of women and families. I hope to continue spreading this message of support, empowerment, and care to all those who entrust me with their maternal journey.

In my journey as a doula, business owner, mom, and instructor, there is one special entity that deserves a shoutout – my journal, “Bloom, Baby, Bloom…A Journal for Mom.” This journal has been my companion through the ups and downs of balancing my various roles, helping me stay grounded and focused on self-care.

“Bloom, Baby, Bloom” is not just a journal, but a tool that has encouraged me to reflect, set goals, and prioritize my well-being amidst my busy schedule. It has been a source of inspiration and motivation, reminding me to nurture myself in order to better serve others.

I dedicate this shoutout to my journal, as it has been instrumental in helping me find balance and perspective in my multifaceted life. It is a reminder that self-care is not selfish, but essential in order to bloom and thrive in all aspects of my life.
