We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Frazier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am a national educator for the second largest beauty brand in the world, and I moved here about t9 years ago from the north east and saw a huge need for a “career” based hair salon. There’s so many great hair salons in the area, however no one was creating a career path or plan for stylists like myself and that was something I was seeking since it was readily available where I am from. I also noticed, when I first moved here, was a real lack in advanced education. So I wanted to create a place for hairdressers that had work life balance AND abundance; as well as professionalism through advanced education.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love the art of hair, because it requires an expensive knowledge of science like chemistry to create something beautiful and predictable. It’s so fun to work with science but to end up with something people get to wear all day and feel good! I think thats my favorite art about hair “art.” Its alive and you never now who’s day you get to make better just by dong your job! I didn’t get to where I am today by just graduating beauty school, it’s been a difficult yet most rewarding journey! From beauty school I took on an apprenticeship under a top stylist as well as mentored under another top educator when I found myself on that journey as well. I attended so many classes I fell into education because I was so passionate about it, my mentor asked why I wasnt sharing my education with others! And I simply didn’t think anyone wanted to hear what I had to say, but I was wrong! Our industry is tough but it’s also supportive if you find the right people. I went from an apprentice to a certified colorist in 5 years, then a national educator in 8, owned my own suite for a bit, and moved into owning my own salon four years ago! Thats the whole story in its shortest form, and the best part is it isn’t over! I am still always in classes, and teaching, and always growing!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have an itinerary like this! When my friends come into town the first place is downtown. We def hit up the farmers market for local goods, snacks and art. I also use this to show off some of the beautiful buildings here in town and give them a little history of where I live. Before the market I always stop at KUDU! My fave local coffee! And we always bring my dog too, cause KUDU is the bomb! Lunch is always gonna be blind tiger cause that is my FAVORITE bar in all of Charleston, I like to make sure I show all the charm when people first visit! There will def be some beach days, and I always go with Folly, I love the vibe and the community we have there plus Jack of Cups is my fave place to take my plant based friends for lunch and snacks! I am not a huge drinker so you will also find me taking people to the dry bar at Charleston Hemp Collective on James Island too, they have the CUTEST cocktails with CBD and hemp options, as well as the most content worthy bar area to drink in! And then for dinner it depends on the vibe! If we’re trying to feel fancy Hanks it is for sure! But if it’s a casual dinner night you will find us at Martins on the patio!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout out goes to The Town of Mount Pleasant! Not only did they fully support me when I opened in 2020! They checked on me, made it easy to navigate my needs and paperwork and continue to support my small business!
