We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessicat Kennington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessicat, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
For me I listen to the people who love the content I create. I don’t have a big following and progress has been pretty slow for me, but the people who love my content are extremely loyal and effusive in their praise. My day one supporters are still with me and regularly reach out to let me know they still love my work. While I do most definitely have times when my drive to keep going is shaken and I feel unsure, I listen to the people who love what I do and they always encourage me to keep going.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I begun creating videos when I became too disabled to work because of a back injury. I had very little experience with editing videos or filming and I was totally unsure if I could create something interesting enough that people would really enjoy. When I look at other successful content creators they’re regularly creating new videos that are funny and interesting, and that seemed like fun but also like a pretty big challenge to be so creative and consistently making good videos that people keep coming back to watch. I begun making videos not knowing if I would be successful in finding a following, but I really wanted to express myself and try to have fun with it along the way. I’ve learned so much about video and audio editing by simply trying out so many different programs and diving in with trying different filming techniques and equipment. I surprised myself with learning how to produce the quality of videos I do now all by myself, and I really have so much fun making my videos. I’m so glad to find something I really love to do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown Charleston has so many fantastic spots to eat and Charleston is a great city to walk around in downtown because it’s so unique. So many cities have a downtown area that’s all high rises and looks very modern, but there’s something about downtown Charleston with so many of it’s older buildings still standing that makes it like a trip back in time but also makes the city feel more open and easy going compared to other cities I’ve seen. The whole vibe of Charleston is very chill.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Always there to support me and encourage me in every endeavor I take on is my husband.
