We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Helms and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, what do you want your legacy to be?
The whole goal behind my business is to bring encouragement & joy to women who may feel overlooked or alone in their motherhood journey. I aim to create community and conversation around their struggles; and that is exactly what I would want to be known for – showing kindness, choosing joy, and spreading confidence. Motherhood is hard; and while I think that the hard parts are talked about more now than in years past, I know from experience that it isn’t talked about enough. There are still women who feel alone in their struggles, and it’s my hope that they can find even just a little bit of encouragement from my products or the content I share on social media. That is what I want my legacy to be – bringing joy and community to women who may not otherwise find it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My business started very much as a hobby – just me, my laptop, and my cricut machine – creating cute t-shirts, monogramming tumblers, whatever I could get my hands on! It took me a while to find my footing and really figure out what I wanted my brand to be. I think what sets me apart is that I show up 100% as myself – yes, I’m a business owner; but my number one role is as a mother. I don’t pretend to have it all together or know what I’m doing all of the time; and I think everyone would know I was faking it if I tried to! I’m extremely proud of the brand and reputation I’ve built over the past 4 years, especially after expanding my business & turning my small Etsy shop into an online boutique as well as printing for dozens of boutiques across the US and Canada. I’ve learned how to create a website from scratch, taken classes to learn from other successful entrepreneurs, and invested in my business time and time again to learn new skills to continue to grow. And as hard as some days are, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, there are so many fun spots to choose from! Obviously everyone loves spending time in downtown Greenville. A trip to Falls Park never disappoints, and it is covered with amazing restaurants. I recently did a food tour through downtown and got to eat some delicious food at Lazy Goat, Camp, and Soby”s; and it did not disappoint! I personally am a big fan of all of the food halls popping up in the area. They are the perfect spot to go with a group of friends and each get exactly what you’re in the mood for, and most have live music on the weekends. Some of my favorites are Vaughns in Simpsonville, Cartwright Food Hall in Greer, Gather, or the Commons in Greenville. One of the great things about Greenville is you aren’t far from the mountains, but you can also be at the beach in 4 hours. You could go for a hike one day, take your boat out on Lake Hartwell the next, then head to Charleston for a long weekend!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I talk a lot about community because when it comes to my brand, that really is what it’s all about. And no one understands the need for community in motherhood better than I do because I have the absolute best tribe backing me. My friends are my sounding board, my prayer partners, my test group for new products, you name it! They have been by my side throughout my own motherhood journey + running my business, and I’m so so thankful for them. They have taken on the mission of building community in motherhood and are always looking for ways to include new moms in our “moms night outs” and help each other every chance they can. If you’re looking for a Mom Squad, you’re always welcome at our table!
