We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Farr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always had a creative streak in me. Even as a small child, I used fashion as a way to express myself (just asked my mom who tired to dress me everyday when I was NOT having the outfit she put me in). I couldn’t imagine having a career where I couldn’t channel that creative energy. Having a creative career allows me to share my passions with the world, hopefully inspiring others along the way. I also love how a creative career allows me to express myself and use my platform to share fashion and beauty tips online that help every woman feel confident in her own skin! I want to empower women and use my community to foster a sense of belonging and create a space where people can connect freely.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love sharing my latest fashion finds online! I am always sure to share a mix of styles for different body types and price points to make sure there is something for everyone! I proud of the small ,but tight-knit community I’ve built online and hope that I can encourage others to wear clothes that make them feel amazing!
This journey has not been easy. When I first started posting online, I was really nervous about what others would think. Fortunately most people have been so encouraging. Growing my following took a long time and taught me a lot about dedication and consistency. It seemed impossible for awhile, but I kept posting and eventually grew my little community. I’ve learned a lot about not caring so much what others think and doing what makes me happy and fulfilled. I’ve also learned to be more patient – great things take time!
I want the world to know that I think there is much more to this than just posting cute outfits on social media. It’s much deeper than that for me, and I hope to share clothes with women that they can truly feel like a million bucks in.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ohh, there are SO many good spots in Charleston! I love hosting visitors and showing them my favorite places around. For a week long trip, I’d do:
– Day One: Sullivan’s Island beach day. We’d have pizza from Obstinate Daughter on the beach!
– Day Two: Workout class at HyLo (I love to move my body and most of my guests do too!). Acai bowl from Playa Bowls and then an afternoon round of golf at Dunes West.
– Day Three: Downtown day! Shopping on King and then lunch at Carmella’s. Spend the afternoon admiring houses at The Battery. before heading to dinner at Melfi’s.
– Day Four: Beach day at IOP. Pick up sandwiches from Co-op and then hit Coconut Joe’s for pina colodas. Then we’d go to a concert at the Windjammer that night!
– Day Five: Enjoy a boat day cruising around the harbor! Then the night in Mount Pleasant, enjoying dinner at Post House Inn and watching the sunset from Pitt Street Bridge.
– Day Six: Explore Daniel Island by bike. Grab a bite and drinks at Kingstide. Then take the DI Ferry downtown for dinner at 167 (Raw or Sushi – both are amazing).
– Day Seven: Explore downtown more. Do a mead tasting at Savannah Bee Company and then lunch at Leon’s. More shopping, of course! Then dinner at Lewis BBQ!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have always been my absolute BIGGEST supports and encouraged me to pursue anything I put my mind too! They still are always my very first likes and comments, and I would definitely not be where I am today without their encouragement and support. Throughout my life, they have always always always been there cheering me on no matter what. I am beyond grateful to have them!
Also, all of the businesses I have partnered with along the way! There are too many to name here, but each and every business that has offered me a collaboration or affiliate partnership has helped propel me forward. I especially love working with the smaller, local businesses where I can help make a bigger impact.
