We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Ripley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becca, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work-life balance has evolved significantly over time, shaped by the rigorous demands of my college career where I juggled playing Division 1 basketball, working a full-time job, and managing friends, family, and NIL endorsements. This period in my life taught me essential skills in time management, prioritization, and resilience, guiding me to where I am today. Now, as a marketing director in Charleston, I continue to navigate a dynamic balance, enjoying the beautiful city, maintaining friendships, and engaging in influencing and marketing for small businesses. The disciplined balancing act from my college years has laid a solid foundation, enabling me to thrive in my multifaceted professional and personal life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am thrilled to embark on my career as a Director of Marketing in the alternative finance industry, which is my primary focus, while also engaging in content creation and influencing partnerships for small businesses in Charleston. The journey to this point hasn’t been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding. Balancing a demanding college career with Division 1 basketball, a full-time job, and managing NIL endorsements taught me resilience and time management, which have been invaluable in my professional life. Overcoming these challenges required determination and a supportive network, especially my parents, who have always been my pillars of strength. The beautiful city of Charleston offers a vibrant backdrop for my career, and I am passionate about building my professional journey here. I want the world to know that my brand and story are built on hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support of those around me. My work in marketing and influencing aims to uplift small businesses, reflecting the same spirit of community and perseverance that has guided me throughout my life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here is how I would plan a trip: We would start with a Southern-style brunch at Red Drum, then explore historic scene along The Battery and shop on King Street, grabbing lunch at Husk. Enjoy fresh seafood at the Darling Oyster for dinner and cocktails at The Belmont. Spend a beach day at Sullivan’s Island, starting with breakfast at The Co-Op, lunch at Poe’s Tavern, and dinner at The Obstinate Daughter, followed by drinks at Home Team BBQ to catch a game. Take a historic walking tour after breakfast at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, then lunch at Leon’s Oyster Shop, relax at Waterfront Park, and enjoy a golf cart ride over to a concert at Credit One Stadium, ending with dinner at Viva. Boat to Shem Creek for morning cocktails, lunch at Tavern & Table, and ending with dinner at Fleet Landing. I would spend our last day exploring Boone Hall Plantation, and hitting up Mozzo for a quick lunch to wrap up our Charleston adventure.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe my success and where I am today to the unwavering support, love, and mentorship of my parents, who are my true heroes. From a young age, they made countless sacrifices, both playing basketball and attending every single one of my games, providing a constant source of encouragement throughout my career. My mother, in particular, has been my mentor not only in basketball but also in life, guiding me through challenges and triumphs with wisdom and unconditional support. She is my best friend, always there to lend an ear and offer advice. Both my parents have stood by me as I embarked on my influencing and marketing journeys, equipping me with the tools and confidence to succeed. Their belief in me has been the cornerstone of my achievements, and I dedicate this shoutout to them for their incredible dedication and love.
