We had the good fortune of connecting with Mara Sussman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mara, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe my success (which is my own definition of course!) has come from me following my truth and taking next steps based on what was lighting me up …. scaring me…. making my heart beat faster…. and making me uncomfortable!!

What should our readers know about your business?
I have been in Chiropractic practice for over 25 years….. working as an associate for the first 6 years and then on my own…. I have also had a Doterra Essential Oil business for over 12 years and have incorporated that into my business model in my small home practice. I work with adults and children, in person and remotely with people and support them in all aspects of their lives….. not just physically – but mentally and emotionally as well. I also offer nutritional protocols and essential oil protocols to assist a patient on their path…. I have alchemized many tonal, gentle chiropractic techniques as well as energy techniques like Reiki into a unique experience of support and non judgement for my patients.

I have used practice management companies that helped me set up my practice to create a patient centered energy and office that was critically important to partner with my patients in their care…..

18 months ago I started working as a Case Doctor in the Sherman College of Chiropractic Health Center in Boiling Springs, SC. I love teaching and mentoring up and coming chiropractors and feel so lucky to get to work in such a great school that is producing such excellent doctors.

My biggest lessons were not listening to my intuition and inner knowing…. but trying to please outside people/forces or old ideas…. once I allowed myself to do what I wanted and what felt right — all flowed from there …

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to lots of outside natural places as well as some great restaurants and in town fun!

I love Paddle boarding on Lake Lure in NC ….I love going to the Farmers Market in Landrum SC on Saturday mornings….. I. love going to Travelers Rest to the Swamp Rabbit Cafe and walking the trails as well as eating their yummy food ….

I love going to Greenville to walk around and shop and eat delicious food —

I love going to Mountain Brook Vinyards in Tryon NC to go wine tasting and sitting in the sunshine surrounded by beautiful mountains.

I love going to Tryon International Equestrian Center in Tryon as well — to both watch competitions and go trail riding as well as go to music festivals there and eat at their restaurants–

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My MOM !! for teaching me that I can do and be anything I want to…. and by her trailblazing the way as a single mom and my most ardent supporter in every way! My family… My kids who always allowed me to practice on them!! My Dad, brother and sister-in-law….niece and nephew for the same…. taking my advice and always loving and supporting me along all of my ups and downs….

My Colleagues in Chiropractic – who I have been collaborating with for over 25 years ….. friends from school and from the different techniques I do as well as my new colleagues at Sherman College of Chiropractic!
