We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Fulton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I believe my business helps the community and the world because with all of the turmoil that is happening around us everyday, I feel that music brings joy into the lives of people who are suffering in ways that we cannot even fathom.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
First off, never give up on a dream. It may take you several years but it will never come if you give up. No, it wasn’t easy. Things are never just given to you. You need to earn your stripes.. I have learned that all clients are different and have different tastes and that you need to know what to look for and be able to change what your are doing on the fly if your original plan is not working out as you wanted it to. I am proud that I have made a lot of great friends doing what I do and as someone who suffers from mental health issues, I find what I do to be good therapy for my mind.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in San Diego like I do, this would be my plan.

I would show them around Balboa Park and give them a little history about the park.
Take them up to the mountains

Take them to the Embarcadero and visit some old boats

Spend a day at the beach i.e paddleboadering, kayaking, frisbee

Take them to the Gaslamp area for a night out and find a nice rooftop bar and some killer fish tacos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my very first DJ instructor. Bo Scott. He may live in Atlanta now but, I know he is always there to lend me advice on how to make my music or sets better. All of my former students and instructors at DJ4LIFE.
