We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Roman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allison, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was always one of those kids who was rearranging my bedroom furniture and begging my mom to let me repaint my room! My love for interior design started early. Over the years I found myself decorating and designing spaces for our own homes as well as for friends and family and it was one of those tasks that never felt like work! About a year ago, I realized that I had enough experience and potential clients that I could start my own design business. I launched with a total home renovation job and never looked back!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Several years ago my family purchased a home in my childhood neighborhood and began a year long total renovation. This process was the catalyst for me to launch my Design Brand in 2023 which includes a social media presence, Roman Family Home as well as an interior design business, Allison Roman Design. I believe the combination of the two allows the public and future clients to get a backstage view of my thought process, my personality, and the functionality of my interior design work. I’ve been able to help so many clients virtually across the country through showcasing my work on Instagram and I’ve been blessed with clients here in Greenville who allow me to walk them through home builds and room refreshes to give them spaces in their homes that they truly love. One of the challenges I have faced by juggling both facets of my brand is protecting the design work of my paying clients while also providing inspiration to my social media following. I want my clients to know and feel the value in paying for my services by giving them special and customized attention and designs. I make it a priority to get to know my clients on a personal level during the design phase so that I can add in personal touches to their space through art, materials, or decor items. I truly think a perfect design is one that is functional and feels personal.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh I love this question! I was born and raised here in Greenville, SC and it’s probably my favorite city. I would definitely start the trip off at the TD Market downtown on a Saturday morning. We’d grab coffee and a cinnamon scone from Great Harvest Bread while we walked the vendors and shopped for local flowers and produce. We’d make time to walk or bike the swamp rabbit trail from Falls park out to Unity Park. Throughout the week I’d make sure we ate at all my favorite restaurants including Jianna, Camp, Urban Wren, The Anchorage, and Takosushi. I’d also check to see if there was a baseball game happening at Fluor Field or a concert at Bon Secours. We’d also take a day to head out to Triple Falls for a really fun hike! There’s just so much to do here!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My ability to launch my own business this year with two young daughters could not be possible without the support of my mom and my husband. They help me manage a busy working mom schedule and lend a listening ear!
