We had the good fortune of connecting with April Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April, how does your business help the community?
As your Event Flow Maestro, I’m all about fostering community through events. My aim is simple: to create spaces where people can connect, learn, and grow together, strengthening our bonds and creating a sense of belonging.

Whether I’m crafting the run-of-show, sparking conversations, or delivering keynotes, my focus is always on crafting experiences that resonate deeply with attendees. Each aspect of my work is carefully tailored to meet the needs of the community, as seen through the eyes of my clients.

Together, we have the power to shape the world of our guests, providing them with a safe and authentic space to forge meaningful connections. I believe that my role is to facilitate what people crave most—community. By nurturing genuine connections and weaving intentional narratives, I strive to create environments where everyone feels valued and heard.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve had those moments—the ones where the vision is crystal clear in my mind, yet when it comes time to translate it onto paper or articulate it to others, chaos seems to take over. But you know what? I’ve learned to thrive in that chaos, mastering the art of “Conquering Chaos and Crafting Brilliance.”

**Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today business-wise? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?**

Hello, I’m April, your Event Flow Maestro at April C. Evans, Limited Company. My focus is on creating events that bring people together and achieve meaningful outcomes. Whether I’m emceeing, designing the event schedule, or curating conversations, I understand that smooth event flow and creativity are crucial for success.

One of my proudest moments was leading the JuneteenthGVL Royal Gala in 2022 and 2023. This event celebrates the end of slavery for African Americans and has grown significantly in attendance since its inception. Being part of such an important event has been a highlight of my career, and this year, I’m excited to serve as the emcee.

My role as the Creative Arts Director at Changing Your Mind Ministries has been instrumental in shaping my skills. It’s where I learned the importance of time management, creating order, and building authentic connections—key components of successful event planning.

The journey to where I am today hasn’t been easy. Personal growth has been essential. I had to conquer chaos in my own life, find healing, and align with my true passions to approach my work with authenticity and purpose.

What sets me apart in the event industry is my commitment to collaboration, my genuine desire for my clients’ success, and my dedication to events that align with my values. When you work with me, you’re not just getting an event planner—you’re getting a partner who is fully invested in making your event a success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s dive into the perfect downtown experience for the week! First stop: The Grand Bohemian. Its central location and breathtaking views of the Reedy River make it an ideal base for our adventures.

But before we start exploring, let’s fuel up with some breakfast delights at The Flying Biscuit Café. Trust me, their velvety grits and whole wheat French toast with sweet cream cheese are to die for! And of course, we can’t forget to hit up Biscuit Head and the Waffle House for some more tasty dishes.

Next on the agenda: a leisurely stroll through Falls Park on the Reedy and maybe even a bike ride along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. And for some adult fun, we’ll swing by Group Therapy and Social Latitude for some games and good times.

As we cruise through the city, let’s not miss out on exploring iconic neighborhoods like Nicholtown, Crosby Circle, Pleasant Valley, and West Greenville. Want more culture? Let’s catch a show at the Peace Center or The Well or go to a local museum.

Now, onto cocktails! We’ve got some great spots lined up, including OAK & HONEY, Neat Bourbon Bar, Yee-Haw Brewing Company, and Yardhouse.

And when it comes to dinner, we’re spoiled for choice! From Restaurant 17 to Burbon St. Burgers, CAMP American Modern Eatery to Patterson at Hotel Hartness, and Chophouse 47 to Pomegranate on Main, we’ll be indulging in a culinary journey like no other. Oh, and let’s not forget Jones Oyster Co. for some mouthwatering oysters!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! There are definitely some incredible individuals and people that deserve a shoutout in my story. My family always make a point to tell me I’m always busy doing something, and since talking is right up my alley, I should “have at it” with this MC’ing thing. I really can’t make this up! We are stupid crazy about each other.

My Pastor and SC State House Representative, Wendell Jones, has been a huge inspiration. His teachings and example push me to live life to the fullest. He gave me opportunities to refine my event coordination skills and engage audiences as the Creative Arts Director at our church. Plus, I he brought me on a to partner with him at his business, The Wendell Jones Leadership Institute, where I served as a lead instructor for the curriculum I developed, “Women in Leadership, Excelling in a Man’s World.”

Then there’s La’Tasha Clark, my “Bestie for the Restie,” who’s been by my side through thick and thin. She doesn’t let me cut any corners, gives me unfiltered feedback, and celebrates my resilience and growth. I’ve also contracted her business to support as my Executive Assistant.
Of course, I can’t forget to mention my church family, Changing Your Mind Ministries! These people will make you believe you can do anything and everything all at the same time! I love it here! I never knew love like this. Their unwavering support and encouragement has meant the world to me. They’ve all played a significant role in shaping me, and I’m incredibly grateful that they demonstrate that they are FOR me.
