We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I think my first thought process was who will benefit and why. I also think anyone that is starting a business will naturally think of the potential risks and how things could result if they turn out to be inconsistent with the original business vision.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I joined the Law Enforcement job at a younger age. I was around 25 when I became a part time police officer. I had a great job for my age at the time, and wasn’t sure if this was what I wanted to do or not. One of the local departments where I grew up was taking applications for part time positions. This was sort of a voluntary position, much like a voluntary firefighter. So I did this for a few months and gave it a shot. I then realized I wanted to pursue this as a full-time career. So, I applied for a full-time position and was given the opportunity. I can’t say it’s been easy, but I do feel rewarded by the people I have met, the opportunities and training I have received. Everything I teach, or the other instructors I bring in to help teach, will always bring real world training/experience from our vast variety of skills and personal experiences. Everyone has something they can offer. This can come from first responders and competitive shooters.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t think anyone can go wrong with food and drinks at our local Irish Pub in downtown Spartanburg which is called Delaney’s. I would then take them to some local breweries throughout the week for local food and drinks.
If the weather is warm, a quick trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains trails always is fun and very nice this time of year. Chimney Rock is always a quick spot to visit from here.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout will always be family and friends first. In today’s time Law Enforcement, firearms/weapons, training and even the acceptance of moving forward in a self-defense manner with a firearm has drawn criticism from all angles. Family and friends have always shown support through the hard times and good times. The rest of the shoutout will come from other Instructors, students and members of the job who share the same passion of giving back in any way you can.
