We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madison, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been extremely independent and dreamed of having my own business from a very young age. I really looked up to my father who was able to build a business from the ground up and I knew I wanted to do that one day. When I found a passion for esthetics and beauty, I was sure I wanted to make a business out of it. Something that was my own and impacted people in a positive way. My goal is to help people feel confident and beautiful. I also want to inspire young makeup artists or others in the beauty industry to follow their dreams. Owning a business in the beauty industry can be scary, I truly didn’t know where to begin so, if I can help others get started, it makes me feel really accomplished. That’s what I feel like the purpose of my business is. To make people feel confident, beautiful, and ready to take on anything they set their mind to.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I place a lot of importance on enhancing people’s beauty without making them feel like someone they’re not. I am versatile in my artistry because I love creating natural glam, soft glam, and full glam looks. I want to cater to all different styles of makeup! It’s definitely a challenge keeping up with the trends and the beauty industry is constantly evolving, but that’s why I love it. I never get bored with my job because I’m always trying something new. I have definitely failed at things along the way, but that’s the key to learning and growing. Without marking mistakes or getting critiqued by others, you’ll never get better! I’m always trying to take in what people have to say and apply them in my business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have a lot of spots I enjoy in downtown Greenville! Coffee underground is where I go when I want a laid back/relaxed environment, Coral is one of my favorite restaurants for an upscale dinner, then I like to stop at Carmella’s for dessert. Juniper is a place I love to go when I want to dress up with my girlfriends and have some cute cocktails. I also love shopping at the cute stores up and down main street like M. Judson Booksellers, Plant Stella, and Old Skool Outfitters.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Robert Johnson has always been my number one supporter in starting my business as well as my mother Kimberly Haddock. My father passed away before starting my business, but he was a very large part of why I chose to start a business in the first place and he taught me a lot of what I know. I also had some really great esthetics instructors at Kenneth Shuler school of cosmetology.
