We had the good fortune of connecting with Dave Staib and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dave, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was simple. I had been running a multi million dollar pest control operation for Orkin very successfully for 11 years. I knew the science, I knew the business model. I knew how to generate revenue and operate efficiently enough to generate substantial profit so why not do it on my own, by my rules with my own employees!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My pest career started in 2007 as an operations manager with Orkin. I had a very intense first 2 years completing a program that they called BMT (branch manager training) this involved dozens upon dozens of classes, courses at Texas A&M, Perdue and the American institute of Baking. This training immersed me in a new field that I became totally enamored with and my passion and interest grew massively over my 11 year career with them. I became very focused on the termite sales and service side of the industry and found my niche. I knew when launching Freedom Pest services that I had a gift to offer my customers. That gift was an extensive knowledge of building and construction and an integral insight into how and where termites enter into a structure and how to protect that structure with my expertise in structural pest control. My only struggle was going to be how to launch the business quickly as I had 2 children in college when I started Freedom and was newly remarried and did not want my new wife having to support me or my college obligations.
Freedom became solvent after 7 months and the rest has been a very steady organic growth of 30-200% growth year after year.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The White water center is one of my favorite places to take visiting guests. I live on Lake Wylie and try to get on the skis or boat 3-4 times per week. I also love drag racing and there are about 4 different drag strips that I enjoy when ever time allows. Drift on lake Wylie has quickly become my favorite restaurant locally but the live local musicians at Papa Docks and the Tega cay shore club are always enjoyable! There is a local Musician Rod Fiske who my Son and I used to go and see weekly……He knew my Sons favorite music and every time I go to see him he always dedicates a song to me in honor of my late Son. (Alice in Chains “Nutshell”)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The credit for my success has to be shared with many people starting always with God! The second person on the list is my Step Father, my mentor and my biggest cheer leader Larry Green. The others that deserve credit for my drive and ambitions are my Wife Kelly Staib, my Daughter Peyton Edwards and my late Son Senior Airman Logan Riley Staib!
