We had the good fortune of connecting with Alizay Hickson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alizay, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Divine intervention led me down a path I hadn’t planned, but it turned out to be a perfect fit for my personality and passions. I was initially pursuing a career in anesthesiology, but esthetics unexpectedly captured my interest and I never looked back. I’m now passionate about skincare and networking. My mom’s entrepreneurial spirit and success have been a huge inspiration, driving me to build my own business and secure a stable future. I cherish the freedom and flexibility that comes with it, and I love connecting with new clients and experiencing new opportunities.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I come from a family of natural-born leaders, entrepreneurs, and go-getters, so greatness is in my DNA. Starting my own business, Touch Esthetics, has been one of the best investments I’ve made, but it’s not without its challenges. As a first-time business owner, I’ve faced obstacles like balancing college and entrepreneurship, relocating during a pandemic, and managing expenses. But the most important lesson I’ve learned is to stay true to myself and understand that not every client will be a good fit. It’s about embracing trial and error, adapting to change, and never giving up. My goal for Touch Esthetics is to make a lasting, positive impact on my clients’ self-love, confidence, and well-being, just as Dr. Jackie Greene inspires us to be ‘fruitful and effective’.

My esthetic services cater to individuals of all genders, aged 4 and above, and include:
 – Advanced facials including dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, extractions, exfoliation, serums, enzyme masks, hydro jelly masks and more!
– Expert body waxing using all natural sugar and hard wax techniques, with a specialty in Brazilian waxing. Wax Wednesdays are my most popular days due to the $50 discounted service!
 – Soothing body massages, including lymphatic drainage, enhanced with options like hot stones, aromatherapy, foot soaks, and relaxation treatments.
 I’m passionate about promoting self-care and proper skincare from a young age, and I’m dedicated to providing a tranquil and rejuvenating experience for all my clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I reside in Columbia, SC, where the vibe is laid-back. My best friend and I enjoy low-key, girly outings that are relaxing, fun, and sweet. We spend our weekends exploring new restaurants on Main Street and local areas, visiting Soda City on Saturdays, attending 4WARDCITY church on Sundays, and participating in Bible study at The Brooke on Wednesdays. We also unwind with movie nights, journaling, and nature walks, ice cream from Marble Slab and indulge in self-care sessions at Hand and Stone. Additionally, we’re due for a long-overdue bestie photoshoot with our favorite photographers, Josh Cotner and Claudia.”

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I offer my utmost gratitude to God, who has lovingly guided me, bestowed favor and protection, and skillfully removed obstacles, molding me into the woman I was divinely designed to be.

I also pay tribute to my parents, who nurtured my resilience, academic excellence, and wisdom, empowering me to thrive.

And finally, I acknowledge my own unwavering resolve, choosing to conquer fears, doubts, and worries, and instead, embracing strength, grace, and peace, which has enabled me to achieve my aspirations and live a life filled with purpose and fulfillment.
