We had the good fortune of connecting with RANDY OWENS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RANDY, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Passion for what we do. I love dogs and think each one deserves a loving home and a safe place to live. They give so much back to us as far a joy and happiness and they say people who have dogs live longer and happier lives. My rescue we strive to help as many dogs as we can. Below is our mission.

Dog Squad is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit shelter-less dog rescue organization dedicated to giving dogs a second chance at life. We rescue high risk dogs from euthanasia at overcrowded shelters and provide them with a voice when they need it most. The majority of the dogs we rescue come with severe and complex medical needs. We are committed to providing essential veterinary care and bridging the gap between the cost of treatment and the resources available to shelters and foster families.

We believe that every dog, regardless of breed, age, size, or medical condition, deserves compassion, care, and the opportunity to find their forever home. We are dedicated and work tirelessly to rehabilitate these dogs by providing them with comprehensive veterinary care, unconditional love, basic training, and socialization in the nurturing environment of foster homes.

Based in Greenville, South Carolina, Dog Squad serves as a beacon of hope for dogs in need within our community and beyond. We are committed to making a difference in the lives of these animals, one wagging tail at a time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets us apart from other rescues is that we try and match the dog with the family and the family with the dog. Just because a family wants a dog does not mean just any dog will be right for them and their lifestyle. Every breed has personalities like humans do. We want to make sure we set both the family and dog up for success and try to match the family and their lifestyle with a dog that will be appropriate. For example you would not want a super active young family to adopt an older senior dog that is not active like the family. We do background checks on the adopter, phone interviews and home visits. We also have the adopters sign a contract saying if for any reason the adoption does not work out that they bring the dog back to our rescue. They cannot give the dog to a friend or take it to a shelter.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would show them our wonderful city. I would take them to some of my favorite places to eat and drink. Trappe Door being ond of my favorite restaraunts and also Restaraunt 17. I would show them our beautiful downtown Greenville and all the wonderful places down their to visit. All the wondeful locally owned stores and bars. I would also take them out on Lake Jocasse. The most beautiful lake in the country. Then we would visit some of the local dog bars where you can take you pup to play with other pups and have a drink. Dapper Dog and Unleashed Dog Bar. I would also show them what we do with our rescue and take them to the local shelters and let them see all the dogs that are looking for forever homes. Give them an idea of why we do what we do.
