We had the good fortune of connecting with M. R. Erfman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi M. R., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, there wasn’t much thought process behind it. Growing up, Nike told me to just do it, and that’s exactly what I did.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to my art, I guess I would classify myself as a Bard, weaving stories and telling grand tales of the trials of life with flair. What I believe sets me apart from others is that despite the fictional tales I tell, I take into great consideration that all individuals, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation, will find someone relatable within my tall tales. Since I learned how to read, I have dreamed about becoming an author; I am beyond proud of myself that I have taken the steps to be exactly that, and I am excited for readers to be immersed in the stories that have been living rent-free in my head.
Getting to where I am today took more courage than anything. I have been writing stories for as long as I can remember; however, taking the steps to allow the world to read these stories is the most difficult. I say this in the present because, as a writer, the nervousness to take the step for strangers to read my stories never fades. For me, writing is easy; having the courage to challenge my fears is a never-ending battle.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned as an Independent Author is that one size does not fit all. There are countless lessons out there that can teach you how to be a writer, but until you find what works for you, it will seem as if nothing works at all.
I would like the world to know that, like Alice, I fell down the rabbit hole, chasing the white rabbit of dreams and adventure, knowing that I can not go back to yesterday, for I was a different person then.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were visiting the area with a best friend, I would take them to Parris Island first. The first time I ever visited South Carolina was 11 years ago, to go to my husband’s graduation ceremony. As my best friend and I enjoy the outdoors, we would visit state parks and historical locations. My favorite time of year in South Carolina is October, so I would hope the visit would be around that time so we can enjoy all the haunted attractions together as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person who deserves the most recognition is my loving husband. He has and continues to support and encourage me to be the best version of myself. Without him, any and all of my success would mean nothing. I am honored to have such an amazing man at my side through all of my life stages, trials, and tribulations,
