We had the good fortune of connecting with DK Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DK, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting a clothing brand provided another avenue to express myself without limitation. It was a way to connect to a multicultural world with art, spoken word, architecture in the form of clothing. Moreover, it is the frontrunner to my masterplan that is currently coming to fruition. I also know this brand will open different platforms, provide generational wealth, forge new relationships and bridge many gaps all in the name of style!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

My business happens to be in the fashion industry as a high-end clothing brand by the name of SAINT ROSE. What sets us apart is that we strive to bridge the cultural gap through concept art with bespoke fabrics to recondition minds, globally, promoting self-love, universal love, and above all Godly love. There’s a saying, “the devils in the details” in how that connects with us, is we consistently place messages, double entendres, hidden mysteries (Ephesians 3:3-5,9-10) in our designs. Some of our designs are literally conversation pieces here to educate, innovate and at the same time make you look good. I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished independently with taking designs from concept to reality, finding the right manufacturers with the right price points to produce with quality which can be quite challenging, time consuming, and expensive. Although we are just getting started the journey has not been easy. Trying to convince people to see your value, collaborate, invest in you whether its time or money is not a given and comes with the territory, getting everyone to be on the same page at the same time can be frustrating. Like I alluded to earlier regarding manufacturers, it’s a lot of work finding the right ones, avoiding scammers, getting your designs produced exactly as the mockups are and with the right materials. Dealing with language barriers is very much a real thing and consistent communication is sometimes a challenge. Sometimes people raise an eyebrow when they see our prices, but don’t take into consideration the work that went into getting these items produced and shipped with high quality and brand clarity. There’s a lot of lessons my partners and I have learned in the process, one of the most important is that you must have the heart to do this, you must know your worth, you must be consistent and persistent, authentic, resilient, believe in yourself, etc. But overall, when you know you’re in possession of a diamond you welcome all negative and positive situations therefore it increases your clarity, in-turn increasing your value. Our message to the world is simple, WE’RE HERE! We’re taking over and will be known amongst the elite (Louis Vuitton, Dior, Celine, Gucci, Givenchy, Balmain, Balenciaga, etc.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If my best friend was spending a week with me in the metro we’d definitely hit up some lounge spots like Smoked, The Grand on main, the Main Course, Hendrix but also some of the mom and pop spots (i.e. hole-in-the-walls) like Southern crave, Indulge, Johnsons, etc. for some good eats. As far as activities we’d hit some of the collegiate and high school games and for the weekend go to soda city to connect with other local businesses and check out the music and food trucks. I definitely can’t let them leave without hitting the boxing gym to get some rounds in and find some spots around the city to hoop.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This may sound like a cliché but first and foremost I give all praise, glory and honor to the Most High Heavenly One, none of my achievements would be possible without him. I thank my parents, my beautiful wife, son, my team, family, friends, customers, jobs, everything and everyone I’ve been connected to. I’m even grateful and thank those who didn’t see my value, who participated in my failures or wanted to see me fail, all deserve credit in shaping my success.
