We had the good fortune of connecting with Sunny Dublick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sunny, what do you attribute your success to?
I think there are a few integral factors behind the success of my business, but the first and most important one is the belief in myself. Confidence is definitely something I have struggled with all of my life, but the more time I spent trying to grow Sunny Dublick Marketing, the more I realized how crucial it was that I have the courage of my convictions. No one wants to hire someone who comes to the table unsure and doubting themselves. I knew if I wanted to be great I had to genuinely believe I was.
This took a few years… and I will say I believe the best confidence builders are time and failure– knowing where your strengths are and knowing what to walk away from. Those lessons and all the time I spent doing the work & learning made me feel rock solid in what I had to offer my clients.
The second thing is my community. I have been really lucky to have a series of great mentors throughout my career, I have a crew of other amazing women founders, and a great support system with my family and friends (who I jokingly call my board of directors). When I feel stuck or unsure these are the people I go to for advice. They push me to take risks, tell me the hard truths and remind me of how capable I am.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I created Sunny Dublick Marketing to provide, what I feel, are the most impactful services to brands and business owners so they can set themselves up for sustainable success and stop wasting money on marketing that doesn’t work.
95% of the time, clients come to me and say ‘I need X (Instagram engagement, email automations, etc.).’ I like to say this is like going to the doctors office and telling them you need open heart surgery before you even have a CT scan. Most business owners are looking for the same things: growth & sales– but getting those is going to look different for every business. As such, you need a custom diagnosis and solution, before you start throwing darts at a dart board, praying something works.
In my opinion, the most important part of any business are our people. Customers, employees, vendors. So I start there- I do surveys, secret shops and in-depth interviews to fully understand your business from both and internal and external point of view. I then do a brand audit to review all of your current marketing efforts to show what is working and where we have areas of improvement. I then provide you with a full insight report, brand strategy and marketing plan that defines who we are, what we are going to do and most importantly, why.
My biggest value is in helping my clients make informed decisions around their business and marketing efforts, so they can start attracting business and stop chasing it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop would be Sullivan’s Island- in the mornings I take my dog (Mini Aussie, Buffy) there to play in the waves. Afterwards Page’s Okra Grill for Brunch.
Happy Hour at Boathouse in Isle of Palms to see the dolphins, and dinner at Coda Del Pesce.
Next day I would do Magnolia to walk around the gardens, get some lunch at the Tattooed Moose on John’s Island.
Would do a day downtown (first Friday if possible!) going to the galleries (Robert Lange is my favorite), shopping boutiques on Upper King etc. Grab a drink at Gin Joint.
Definitely would need to have a laid back day on Folly Beach, pit stop at Bohemian Bull on the way home.
I am at James Island County Park a lot with Buffy so I usually make that a stop when friends are here- do a little picnic, maybe catch one of their summer concerts.
Wrap up the trip with a trip to Bull’s Island or kayaking Shem Creek!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hatchtribe has been a big influence on my business for sure. I met Hilary years ago at one of their events in Charleston and I remember being so in awe of her presence and what she built. Joining her Mastermind Group (CEO Society) really pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and take some risks– things I kept talking about wanting but just felt too afraid to take action on. Having a group behind you to say, you got this, and we got your back..it made me feel unstoppable.
