We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Cobb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jared, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve known since I was 10-years-old and got my first camcorder that videography was what I wanted to persue. Something about creating creative content that can tap into any emotion was a big appeal to me, even at a young age.
I love doing videography specifically because it’s a group process. Something like painting is a one-person job, but with a quality videography production, you’re relying on other talented people to all come together and make one great product at the end. It’s always immensely satisfying to finally sit back and watch the completed work knowing countless hours from so many people went into it.
I never thought I’d be doing wedding videos, but with TwoFlyGuys I got thrown into it pretty fast. Doing wedding videography is amazing though– you’re there to capture one of the most important days of somebody’s life. I think for some people it’s just work, but after two years, there hasn’t been a wedding yet I haven’t had a blast filming. It’s hard to put into words how gratifying it is to know you knocked it out of the park and get that “thank you,” email. It really is so rewarding.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a professional videographer since 2014, and I’ve been doing it full-time for over two years now. The thing I’m most proud of is how much growth I’ve gone through in my time at TwoFlyGuys. Looking at my content from when I started to where I am today is very motivating.
The journey wasn’t the easiest, but I have been very fortunate with it. Five years at college, sending out a lot of rejected applications, all to end up networking with Adam Tsang at TwoFlyGuys who gave me a shot. I started by making promotional content for his restaurant and moved into shooting weddings after half a year. It was a drastic transition as far as the content being made, but a welcomed one to say the least.
What sets me apart is my capability to learn and adapt to different situations; whether it’s learning more about camera brands, flying a drone and becoming certified to fly it, or how to interact with clients in an engaging way. It’s all taught me that this is a field you’re never done learning in.
What I’m very excited about is the launch of my personal website. In 2024, I plan to branch out into a lot more content aside from wedding videography. I’ve always had a few business shoots each year, but I plan on really stepping that side of my content up this year. Networking and exploring new ideas and content are all high on the agenda. But that doesn’t mean I won’t still be knocking these weddings out of the park every weekend.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can’t thank the support network I’ve had through the years enough. My fiancé, Savana Oetjen, for not being mad when my computer monitor stayed on until 3AM while I worked on college films. Adam Tsang for introducing me to TwoFlyGuys. Ross Barnett at TwoFlyGuys for teaching me so much and giving me so many opportunities to grow as a videographer. All of their support genuinely means a lot to me.
