We had the good fortune of connecting with Troyeshi Gladden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Troyeshi, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
It’s truly a question of whether or it make me happy? Do I find joy in your business? Are people happy with the service I provide. If so, I would say keep going.

There’s always Ups and Downs in business. There are some great months.
There’s some months that you may not sell or have a booking.

When you lose those things it maybe time to find a new career.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own and operate two businesses Midlands Weddings Services and Ethics Tax and Financial Services. Today we are going to talk about Midlands Wedding Services. I started this journey in 2013 when I first became a South Carolina Notary Public as a requirement for my employer at the time. From there I learned all the things that are required for a notary public here in SC. I also learned the different things that I could do with my commission. So I took to officiating weddings as a Notary Public.

After five years of officiating in South Carolina and finding I had a passion for it. I got ordained a non-denominational minister so I could officiate ceremonies nationwide. I’ve also taking classses and obtained a certificate in wedding planning.

Here we are a little over ten years later and I have officiated/married over 1000 couples. Since 2013, the services that we offer have grown from general notary work and wedding officiant services. We now also offer day-of coordination services.

So how did I get to this point? It wasn’t easy after obtaining all the legal requirements and training to provide the services I offer. I had to build and grow my brand in everything from creating a website to social media platforms. But the most important thing is to provide excellent services so couples and their guests will tell others about me. Referrals and word of mouth are still some of the best marketing tools.

What I learned along the way is that it takes time to grow any brand and sometimes it takes money. But if you are happy with what you are doing it will show in your work.

I would like everyone to know that I love what I do and that each couple’s day is special to them and me no matter the size.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Eat formal dining – Hall’s Chophouse Main St. Hang out – The Joint Main St. for Jazz and Live Bands Drinks – JR Cash – Sparkleberry

Morning runs- The Riverfront Park

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

My husband and daughters because operating a business takes a lot of time. They are always there providing free labor and helping me when I need them most by supporting my effort. I also have a circle of family and friends who are also business owners. We hold each other accountable and give encouragement to keep going.
