We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Donohue and Tiffany Munoz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, Tiffany, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
You don’t need a college degree to be successful!
For many, a college degree provides the tools and knowledge needed for success. Doctors, lawyers, engineers and others all require an intricate amount of knowledge in their specific field to be able to execute their professional daily roles.

But for others, like us, a serious amount of ambition and determination can get the job done! For example, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were college dropouts, and all three went on to build incredibly successful companies!

As entrepreneurs, we have steered away from chasing a four-year degree, because we feel like it would put us in a box. We’re visionaries and trailblazers, and we like the freedom to explore and design.

We wear many hats when operating a business. Marketing, finance and operations to name a few. Not to mention, we get to be the handyman and the on-site IT expert!

It takes that entrepreneurial spirit to find the discipline and consistency to learn and grow through all the ups and downs along the way to building a company. You’ll find that it might not take you a long time to build a successful business, but that it might take you a long time to become the person who’s willing to do it.

There’s no degree that can fast track life experiences. Along the way, we’ve learned the importance of smaller steps, and we’ve developed the skills to focus on the trees, as well as the forest.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At Moxie Park Salon we take education seriously!

We built our business on the fundamental truth that we are a community of stylists determined to be the best in our craft. It is our mission as elevated service providers to exceed the expectations of every guest. We have a relentless passion for the beauty industry, a commitment to continuing education and community outreach, and always strive for 100% customer satisfaction.

We each started as commissioned stylists, evolved into booth renters, yet only to swing back into a commission salon – we both craved the structure and camaraderie of a bustling salon. During this time, and about 12 years into each of our careers, our positions evolved into that of an educator. During our time at that salon, we helped grow an education and apprentice program. It was very rewarding to watch others grow and succeed.

This journey has given us such an insightful perspective as owners. It’s taken years of practice and growth to find the discipline to build the brand that we always wanted to be a part of.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Charleston, SC the possibilities are endless!

A perfect weekend here would be visiting Isle of Palms for a beach day, hitting the Terrace Theater for a movie, and ending the night at a quaint restaurant/bar on King Street!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To start, we have to thank our families! Without their love and support, and an abundance of patience, moving forward with our ‘dream’ would never have been an option.

We must shout out two very special ladies – Ashley Campbell and Angela Mongrain. These two are so much more than our front desk team. Guests know them by name, and they are an integral part of our daily operations.

Angela has been there for us since day zero…when Moxie Park was just a thought. She has helped us grow our social media presence, along with honoring us in several different industry awards.

Ashley helps us with our community outreach, event planning, and prepares all of our marketing materials. She is so thoughtful and helpful, and always prioritizes our guests and our team.

We aren’t us, without them. They say it takes a village – they aren’t lying.
